Abacus Society: Events Director

Hi, I’m Chloe and I hope to be your next Events Director! I am incredibly grateful to have been part of the ABACUS community, as it has allowed me to have fun and build meaningful friendships. Now, with your vote, I would love to give back by planning new and exciting events where everyone can connect and have fun in a welcoming community

As a sociable person with an ENTJ personality, I love organising and planning social events. My previous positions as a peer counsellor and sustainability ambassador at my school helped me foster skills in event management where I aided in organising sustainability fairs, educational talks and excursions. This experience made me understand the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining a professional front.

As someone who’s experienced a social battery crash, I understand the frustration of wanting to socialise but without the loud and intense atmosphere of a club. That’s why I aim to diversify ABACUS events, ensuring there are a range of activities that cater to different preferences and expand our reach to a wider crowd. Whether you enjoy high-energy nights or more relaxed gatherings, I want to create events where everyone feels included.

Furthermore, I believe that strong leadership starts with effective communication. I will always be open to your feedback because my ultimate goal is to foster a strong and thriving ABACUS community. I hope to take on this role and create unforgettable memories for all of us!!

Hello! My name is YJ and I’m a first year IMB student. Growing up in Malaysia and Hong Kong, I appreciate how ABACUS has given international students a space to connect with each other, and I was lucky enough to make a lot of new friends here during my time in university. I’d love to give back to all of you guys by running as your Events Director.

My goal in this role would be to give each member of this society more of a say in what they want from ABACUS. Based on my own experience with planning events, I feel that having feedback after each event can tell us where improvements can be made. I would also like to allow members to vote for ideas for new events, as giving you guys a say will cater to a wider range of interests, making ABACUS an even more inclusive space than it already is. Personally, I’d be interested in bubble-tea making and matchmaking socials to make new friends. 

In the past, I’ve been involved with planning events that are similar to some of the ones here in ABACUS. I was responsible for hosting internal school events, like game days, which helped build a stronger community by bringing students together. Additionally, during my Tatler internship, I assisted in organising high profile events, managing logistics and guest coordination. These experiences have developed my collaborative and organisational skills which I think would be extremely valuable for a society like ABACUS.

I hope that I can work with you all soon to make many unforgettable experiences.🙏
