Having started and ran Tsoc at QE Boys for 4 years, I know and appreciate the importance of having a Tamil society. With a community where our culture and common interests are constantly expressed, only a sense of belonging and family can be brought forward. Starting from zero to getting classrooms full of students, I know a thing or two about getting people interested and wanting to join. I’m easy to talk to, just a text away and definitely willing to go the extra mile. With a solid line up of events at the start of the year, I know I can get Tsoc off to a great start in the new academic year working alongside the rest of the committee. The aim is to make Tsoc bigger and better than ever before and I look forward to working hard to achieve this.
I'd love to create an amazing experience for freshers next year where they can make lifelong memories from a huge range of exciting social and cultural events. Being a freshers rep this year was such an incredible experience where I made countless memories in events such as games and movie nights, cultural celebrations, Rakkamma and Panithuli! I would love to work on new events and I gained a variety of skills from event planning to organisation and communication that will help for this role. I am willing to listen to new ideas and feedback from freshers and will ensure that we always take it on board so that Tamil society can continually grow to become bigger and better. As a first year, I understand that transitioning into uni can be daunting and full of uncertainties. It's therefore really important to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for new students and I am keen to help build a strong sense of community. I am determined to help give freshers an unforgettable experience where they can try new things, make lifelong friendships and incredible memories!
I am standing for the position of Head of Freshers because I am extremely passionate about our Tamil culture and involving and including everyone. Having been an active participant in various Tamil cultural events and activities, I understand the importance of providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for newcomers. I will provide an inclusive and welcoming environment with my skills and experiences towards building a vibrant and friendly environment for freshers.

Hi guys! I’m Girtena and I'm stepping up to run for the Head of Freshers position this year. I have a range of ideas that I can't wait to bring to the table to make our Tamil society even more exciting for our first-year students. Having just been through it myself, I know how daunting it can be to start a new chapter of your life at uni and I aim to make this transition an unforgettable experience, and what better way to do it than with your people! Some of the ideas I would love to introduce include:
- Encouraging first year members to get to know Tamil people within their accommodations through accom get-togethers.
- Collaborating with other societies by having freshers gatherings.
- Holding casual activities such as picnics, ‘PJ’ parties, talent shows and many more throughout the year to give our newcomers a warm welcome.
I know our community is reputed for its vibrant social scene and I am dedicated in ensuring that our freshers’ voices are heard. The success of our UCL Tamil Society starts with us and with your support I will ensure that our society will continue to thrive by looking after the new faces of our expanding community. Vote for Girtena for Head of Freshers!
