Sara Moeini

Hi, I’m Sara, and I am delighted to stand for Surgical Society’s Media Officer.

Having been a member of this society for two years, I have attended many conferences and workshops, all of which contributed greatly to my knowledge and interest in surgery as a career, which I had no exposure to previously. Of course, none of that would have been possible had I not learned about said conferences and workshops through the society’s social media platforms.

This year I have been on Global Surgery’s subcommittee as a media officer, therefore already having acquired experience in this position. I have great time management and communication skills and I am committed to making announcements promptly and in a useful manner, as well as liaising with other societies to maximise Surgical Society’s outreach. Additionally, I am also a writer, which comes in handy when writing up content to engage future surgeons!

I would love to build on the previous Media Officers’ wonderful work and continue promoting Surgical Society’s events, hence increasing accessibility to surgery, and ensuring as many people as possible learn about our work.

Annliya Mathew

Hello! My name is Annliya, I am a 1st year medical student excited to be running for media officer!

I have been a member of the society since starting university and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play a part in running it.

I am fascinated by the various applications technology can have in the medical field and especially the amazing impact it can have to improve people’s quality of life. During my time at school, I ran a healthcare newsletter and coordinated with various fellow students to help promote the field and encourage younger students to take an interest. I was involved in recruiting writers and promoting issues through social media and general announcements. I have been a first year representative for the Malayali society and I believe this experience has helped me develop my abilities and knowledge in how to effectively promote an event and also about reaching the audience you need.

If elected, I promise to work hard with the other committee members to promote incredible events with a variety of panellists and guests to ensure us all having valuable learning experiences and continue to be inspired by those making big and small strides in the field!
