Hi, I’m Punn and I am running for General Surgery Chair!

Having started my clinical placements this year, I was introduced to the range of subspecialities encompassed within general surgery. From open trauma cases to minimally invasive procedures, each area had its own unique challenges and rewards which fascinated me and prompted an interest in this field. Through this opportunity as chair, I hope to share this passion with like-minded students and reduce the barriers towards pursuing a career in surgery!

I am keen to start a mentoring scheme - pairing students with surgeons to learn more about this career, taster sessions in theatre and potentially involvement with research.

In addition, I would like to run a tutorial series (collaborating with MedSoc Gastro/Hepato), focusing on high-yield topics for Y4/Y6.

Furthermore, I would like to host a range of workshops - from exploring surgical techniques using VR to doctor-led suturing sessions and portfolio advice!

Some of my MBBS leadership include:

• 2023/24: Senior Mentor, MedSoc Welfare Officer, Academic Representative
• 2022/23: UCL PRAS Subcom (organised an international conference with 100+ people attending), MedSoc Neurology Vice-Chair, Transition Mentor, Academic Representative
• 2021/22: RUMS Welfare Subcom, MedSoc General Medicine Subcom
