As an international student from Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Society at UCL has become my home away from home – a vibrant community where I’ve found not just a club, but a second family. This year, I have dedicated myself to ensuring that my fellow international students undergo a smooth transition into university life, just as I did. It’s been my mission to provide every member of our society with the chance to connect, network and cultivate meaningful relationships within our Sri Lankan community, allowing them to build their network from the ground up.

I am excited to announce my candidacy for Welfare Officer for the upcoming year, 2024/25. My pledge is twofold: Firstly, to prioritise the well-being of our committee, ensuring each member feels included and supported amidst academic and society commitments. Secondly, to organise activities promoting well-being and community, particularly during stressful times like exams.

As I reflect on my university journey, I realise that this society has been an integral part of my experience here at UCL. As I approach my final year, I am grateful for the friendships and experiences this society has given me. Now I am eager to give back and continue strengthening our community. With your support, I’m confident in my ability to serve as your Welfare Officer, ensuring every member feels valued and connected. I humbly ask for your vote as we embark on this journey together.

Cheers,

Diren Gunasekera
