Yesha Ravani

Hi everyone! My name is Yesha and I would like to be a Deaf Awareness Officer again for next year. Having been in this role for the last 2 years, I have managed to educate more and more hearing people on the basics of sign language, as well as assumptions to avoid about the deaf community. Seeing the enthusiasm and engagement of people attending the workshops makes me feel more motivated to continue spreading awareness. Alongside leading workshops in collaboration with other societies, I have managed to participate in the Deaf Speakers Event with three other deaf students and this gained a lot of people's attention. It opened everyone's eyes to the reality of a deaf person's life. Being the Deaf Awareness Officer the last two years allowed me to embrace my deaf identity and made me more of a stronger advocate for myself. I have realised my passion for teaching hearing people through this role and I hope to continue this next year :)
