As Social Running captain, I would love the opportunity to help others feel comfortable in their environment and enjoy running without feeling any pressure, leading them to love the sport as much as I do. As someone who would not describe themselves as sporty, I have always struggled with group sports and feeling comfortable in a competitive environment. This has sometimes stopped me participating in sport or feeling confident doing sport especially in environments where your speed and performance is importance. I am interested as part of RAX in helping to foster and continue creating a running community where everyone feels welcome, and which is free of judgement. I am also approachable, friendly and encouraging and therefore think that I can be a motivator for others and help them to achieve more than they believe they're capable of. I regularly attend social runs and am also organised and committed meaning I would value this opportunity to take an active role in the society and to further be involved in the RAX community.  RAX has helped me to do and participate in things I didn't think I was able to and I am excited by the opportunity to give others the same self-belief that was given to me through running at RAX and to encourage a welcoming environment for runners of all abilities.

TLDR:

  1. RAX social runs are good vibes and super fun 🤩
  2. The RAX community is awesome 😎
  3. I want to introduce more people to running 🎊👟
  4. I want to encourage participation in competitions 🏁
  5. I want to expand the RAX community by building a welcoming, inclusive and friendly running community 😀
  6. Running is love, running is vibes 🏃‍♂️💜

Hi,

This past September I started running with RAX through the social run programme and I distinctly remember struggling to run to 5 km but what kept me coming back was the atmosphere, fun conversations and positive energy that was present in every social run. I have met so many amazing people at the social runs, many of whom I am lucky to call my friends, that have inspired me to try new things, feel more confident, and realise that the beautiful sport of running is at its core about the community. I genuinely believe RAX has one of the most wholesome and supportive communities and the social runs are the central tenet of this. As social running captain, I wish to introduce more people to the awesome sport of running, encourage participation in competitions and build a community where everyone is welcome and people come back for the vibes, conversations and positivity. I don't know how to end this but one of my friend suggested, "running is love, running is vibes" which perfectly captures why I want to run for social running captain :)

Athena Ho

I am nominating myself for social running captain because the social runs are one of my favourite parts of RAX. I frequently go to the social runs, and have met so many wonderful people, some of which became my best friends. The social runs undoubtedly shaped my entire university life. This experience allowed me to reflect on what I love most about RAX, and thus want to have a chance to give back and take responsibility in this area. I believe that as a group, it makes the run easier and most exciting, and of course, it has helped me reach the treacherous top of the primrose hill countless times. Therefore, I believe that my energy and love for social runs make me a good fit as captain.

Charli Chidiac

As a social runner of RAX, my initial experiences were filled with camaraderie, exploration, and personal growth, setting a foundation of what running means to me beyond just the physical aspect. It was through these group runs that I discovered the power of shared goals, the excitement of exploring new routes together, and the invaluable support system that comes from running with others. Moving forward, I want to bring this sense of community, exploration, and mutual support to the forefront, encouraging every member to discover their own passion for running, achieve their personal bests, and enjoy the journey with every step we take together.
