Hemma Kaur Dardi

Before university I had always wanted to be President of UCL Punjabi society. I was unable to become an FYR but I have attended every social and event to ensure I remain involved with a society I am so passionate about within my culture.

Having regularly organised events, including a charity event for my uncle’s firm, I understand the intricacies of event planning. From coordinating DJs, securing venues, and managing food arrangements to liaising with numerous suppliers, I have honed great organisational skills. As your President, I will bring this expertise to the forefront, ensuring that every society event is executed with precision and excellence.

In addition, I will be able to aid with securing sponsorships and raising funds. I am committed to leveraging my networks and resources to gather the necessary support for the society's endeavours in the year 2024-2025. Coming from an economic background, I will be able to manage the finances of the society.

I have been involved with many societies including Netball, Bhangra, and Indian society during my first year, therefore I will be able collaborate and do joint events with other UCL societies helping to expand Punjabi society to a greater number of students. Furthermore, I have strong communication skills and I am confident I will be able to build and maintain relationships with members and external partners.

I enjoy Bhangra dancing and have been competing and performing for Lions of Punjab for the past 10 years. I regularly go to mixed grills, and I will never miss a

I am enthusiastic about taking on the role of President for the Punjabi Society, driven by my profound love for Punjabi culture – a passion nurtured since my upbringing in a Punjabi household. Growing up surrounded by the rich traditions and values of Punjab has reinforced my appreciation for our cultural heritage. My annual visits to Punjab not only strengthen my connection with my roots but also provide firsthand experiences of the diverse and dynamic aspects of our heritage. With genuine love for Punjab and its vibrant culture, I aspire to lead the society in celebrating and preserving our unique identity. My strong teamwork and communication skills, refined through various experiences, especially my time as a First Year Representative, will enable me to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment within the society. As President, I am dedicated to promoting unity, organizing impactful events, and ensuring that the Punjabi Society continues to thrive as a vibrant community.
