Mariya Kachwala

Hello, I’m Mariya, a second year student studying BA Politics, Sociology and East European Studies at UCL and I’m running for the position of Pi Treasurer.

I’ve always been passionate about news and as an international student who wasn’t familiar with student publications, I was in awe of Pi and its work’s quality, consistency and the larger impact in the UCL community as well.

Also, I’m a person who is good with money and like budgeting and handling logistics and no I don’t hate myself :P.

Having been the Student Trustee and the member of the Finance Committee at UCL Student’s Union and produced a Bloomsbury show at UCL (CHESS shoutout!) this year and produced many small shows within artsUCL as well, I have sort of mastered the art of handling financing, forecasting revenues by attempting to increase memberships and budgeting appropriately both at larger scales (as the Student Trustee) and smaller scales (artsUCL) as well.

Adding onto this, having had writing and editing experience before for organisations like G20/Y20 India, I understand journalism and what investments it take to be confident in my ability as a potential treasurer for such a brilliant and extraordinary community like PiMedia.
