Election post

Elected

My name is Juliette, and I have been managing editor for News this year whilst studying Politics and IR in my second year.

I deeply value that Pi is accessible to all students, no matter one’s degree or prior experience. It has been a place for me to approach news in a creative way, to flourish alongside writers with different interests, and be inspired by editors with diverse viewpoints. I am running for co-EiC as I want to contribute to others experiencing this, by working to give everyone a platform in which their ideas are published, through advice and students cooperating.

I want to dedicate time to ensure a high-quality, smooth publishing process by coordinating everyone’s individual work and always being open minded.

I took part in inaugurating our first staff writers, who greatly contributed to elevating our publishing rate to 176 article last term, compared to 103 last year. I would pursue this if I am elected, by allocating at least 3 weekly news headlines to them, given our responsibility to regularly inform on a swiftly changing political landscape. I would also like to expand on investigative journalism, specifically with regards to UCL news.

Personal experience has shown me how vital editorials are to student journalism, and I would encourage their production. Finally, I will ensure that Pi Online continues to be a meeting place for student journalists offline, in which editors convey each week, and writers can meet with editors bi-weekly for advice and a chat.
