As the founder and current president of UCL Orienteering Club, I am running to be president again as I am excited to see the club growth as it enters its 2nd year, and I believe that I have the passion, experience and understanding required to implement the improvements we need to develop next year. I have developed a good rapport with the SU, the UCLOC committee, and the club's members, as well as developing links with local clubs and British Orienteering.
My plans for next year include:
- Creating a London university league and champions to give our members more chances to practise their skills nearby
- Organising more social events
- Improving our social media output so our Instagram page better reflects the values of our club
- Creating a sort of buddy system so beginners feel more integrated and older students can pass on their skills
- Improving our relationships with RAX and Climbing Society to attract new members
- Advocating for LGBTQ+ equality in the sport on a national level
- Working with other committee members to diversify what we offer, e.g. by working with the Welfare and Women's officers to make our club more accessible and welcoming
- Creating a feedback process so members have more opportunities to communicate with the core committee positions
In conclusion, I have loved being part of the society and committee this year, and can't wait to see how it evolves next year! UCLOC for the win!
