Anjuli Varma

Hi I’m Anjuli, and I’m a first year French and Spanish student :) I’ve really enjoyed my first year in the Music Society, and playing with other passionate musicians. I’d love to be next year’s Symphony Orchestra manager, and to make the experience as fun and welcoming as it was when I joined.

Ever since playing Pachelbel’s Canon in D in my primary school orchestra, I’ve been bitten by the orchestra bug. I’ve been part of orchestras since that pivotal moment, so I’m dedicated to music, and will be committed to the organisation of rehearsals and concerts, and I’d love to be involved in contributing more to the running of the orchestra.

I’ve really enjoyed the repertoire we’ve played so far, especially the mix of older and more modern pieces; I would be very excited about having some input into next year’s repertoire.

One very important thing on my agenda is finding a better home for the timpani, so that the days of lugging them from the music cupboard to the JBR can be ended once and for all.

Most importantly, and what I am very excited about, is choosing the biscuits! I vow to maintain their variety, as I know how important this is to rehearsals, so I am prepared to deplete the Lidl shelves for this cause.

Hopefully I’ve convinced you of my suitability for this role, so I’d love it if you voted for me :)

Xanthe Clothier

Since I joined UCL music society in October, I have enjoyed getting to know everyone involved in the society and orchestra in particular. I have also loved getting to explore new repertoire with orchestra and perform it at a high level in our various concerts so far. All of this led me to want to apply for symphony orchestra manager, as I would love to continue to perform great music with the orchestra and to have a greater role in it than I currently do. Moreover, I was inspired by Alice and Akshay’s contribution to orchestra as managers and I wanted to carry that through to next year. I also believe that I would be well suited to the role because I assist with the packing away of equipment after rehearsals, so I already know where things go and how the system works.

As an aim for next year, I would love to encourage more people to come to post orchestra socials as well :)
