I am very excited to run for Chair of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, as this is a newly added, much needed position within the society and I believe I can make a meaningful contribution to improving the experience of medical students with this specialty. I proposed the addition of this division for next year in order to give students more opportunities to learn about GI health, get involved in research and network with specialists in the field. My goals for 2024/25 are as follows:

  1. Organise teaching series on high-yield exam topics relating to gastroenterology and hepatology
  2. Provide students in both pre-clinical and clinical years with opportunities to engage in research projects related to this specialty, publish their work and present at national/international conferences
  3. Plan speaker events, seminars and lectures on various GI-related hot topics, including the use of AI in gastroenterology and new treatments proposed for the management of metastatic bowel cancer.

As part of the UCL Healthcare Management and Politics Society committee, I am aware of the mechanisms behind organising student-centred events and contacting esteemed professionals in various fields on medicine. I hope to bring in interesting speakers and plan exciting events including networking opportunities, case-based discussions and collaborative educational initiatives with other divisions of Medical Society.

Hi, I’m Punn and I am running for Gastroenterology and Hepatology Chair!

While on placements, I found myself intrigued by the interplay between our GI system and its impact on the body. From managing liver diseases to diagnosing gastrointestinal disorders, each aspect of this specialty offered its own set of intricate challenges and rewarding experiences. This prompted my interest and I hope to share this passion as Chair, bringing new ideas and events, for this newly formed Medical Society speciality!

I am keen to organise an inter-university conference, creating a space to network with like-minded individuals and to broaden perspectives for this career.

Moreover, I am eager to start a mentoring scheme - pairing students up with doctors to learn more about this career and for potential involvement with research!

Furthermore, I would like to run a tutorial series (collaborating with SurgSoc General Surgery) focusing on high-yield topics needed for Y4/Y6 students.

Some of my MBBS experiences include:

  • 2023/24: Senior Mentor, MedSoc Welfare Officer, Academic Representative
  • 2022/23: UCL PRAS Subcom (organised an international conference with 100+ people attending), MedSoc Neurology Vice-Chair, Transition Mentor, Academic Representative
  • 2021/22: RUMS Welfare Subcom, MedSoc General Medicine Subcom

I believe that my previous experiences have shaped and supported me to have the suitable organisational skills to take on this role. Thank you and I hope to have your vote!
