What will you bring to this role?

Coming from a multicultural background has allowed me to appreciate the importance of inclusivity amongst our diverse player base. This appreciation paired with my understanding of cultural differences allows me to connect the players and expand the society’s outreach to those unfamiliar with Mahjong.

As a Mahjong enthusiast, I bring strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the game itself. My experience in organising events during my time as a committee member in high school and leading teams within numerous student organisations makes me well-equipped to serve as the president of Mahjong Society.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My vision is to enhance the Mahjong experience by expanding access to resources. I intend to procure additional Mahjong sets and secure larger venues to accommodate our growing number of players. Moreover, I plan to diversify our membership base by fostering collaborations with other clubs and hosting more inter-university events.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As a new player, I empathise with the challenges of navigating the game's various rules. I am committed to ensuring that players of all skill levels and cultural backgrounds feel welcomed and valued within our society. Through clear, actionable plans such as expanding resources and fostering partnerships, I am dedicated to creating an even more inclusive and welcoming Mahjong Society.

Hey everyone, I am Joshua and I am running for the role of President!

As an active member of the society for the past two years, I relished the time being here. Joining weekly socials has allowed me to meet new friends and the laughter created has enriched my university life by a lot. As the current welfare officer, I am dedicated to not only bring together students from the same cultural background but also students from diverse backgrounds sharing the same passion in mahjong. Committed to bringing the society to a new height, I would like to extend my contribution to the society by running for President. I hope I could achieve the following:

  • Run inclusive and exciting weekly socials promoting mahjong and its strategies. Guide new players to pick up the game so no one feels left out.
  • Collaborate with more societies in UCL to introduce the game to a wider audience.
  • Reach out to mahjong societies of other London universities. Organize interuni competitions for competitive mahjong players.
  • Celebrating festive events like Christmas and LNY with mahjong.
  • Renting out mahjong sets to members over the week with affordable price.

If I have the privilege to become President, I hope to work with fellow committees to bring our fellow members another fruitful year with mahjong. Promising commitment to the role and its responsibilities, I hope to be considered to the role.
