What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
Having been RUMS rep this year, I would like to continue with some of the projects I have started this year, such as my PrEP awareness campaign with the Mortimer Market Centre, which was recently launched at a Drag Society event. Furthermore, I would like to raise awareness of intersex and asexuality issues, as these have long histories of being exploited by the medical system. I am also keen to continue working with the RUMS LGBTQ+ Network, and representing queer medical students, especially in regards to the delivery of queer-related content in lectures and CPP.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
By being RUMS rep this year, I have developed strong links with other groups at and around UCL, such as the rest of the LGBTQ+ Network Committee and the Mortimer Market Clinic. I am also president of UCL Orienteering Club, so I have experience of sport and can relate to some of the challenges faced by queer people in sport. These 2 positions have given me an understanding of how the SU works, how to advocate for change, and how to work with a wide range of people. I am very passionate about these issues, and I believe I will have time in my iBSC year next year to make these changes happen.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.
I am very excited to run to be RUMS rep, and I want to take an intersectional approach to the role! I always like working with queer people, and love hearing about different experiences. I am passionate about bringing queer issues to the fore, and I believe I could carry out the changes we need. I feel like I am an approachable person, and as I am connected to lots of different groups, I feel like I would be a good rep as I can help signpost other medical students to relevant support groups.
