The Careers Officer for Legal Tech must have a strong understanding of the legal industry, adept networking skills, and strong organisational prowess, all of which I possess.
Through my active engagement in numerous Open Days and career-focused events, I have deepened my knowledge of the legal industry. More importantly, I have actively inquired about the presence and implementation of legal technology at different firms. This has provided insight into how lawyers practically use legal technology and also the opportunities graduates with STEM backgrounds can pursue. As Careers Officer, I aspire to shed light on the variety of opportunities available, especially for those from non-legal backgrounds.
My participation in these events has also honed my networking abilities, an essential trait for a Careers Officer tasked with planning panels and fostering relationships with professionals. My role as the First Year Representative of the Student Pro Bono Committee has provided me first hand exposure to the various outreach methods used by the SPBC Career Officers.
Furthermore, organisational abilities are crucial for a Career Officer entrusted with designing and executing career-centric events. My experience as Secretary-General for a Model United Nations conference has equipped me with the foresight to preemptively address potential logistical challenges in event planning, ultimately strengthening skills which seamlessly align with the responsibilities of a Careers Officer.
