Connie Kiew

Hi everyone! I’m Connie, a History undergraduate, and I am standing for LfA Society Treasurer because I’d like to help enrich your experience at LfA! The LfA Society made law more accessible and less intimidating to me in my first term when I was exploring various career pathways and I am excited to further this for incoming and current undergraduates!

Why me?

I particularly want to run for Treasurer as it aligns with my past leadership experiences. As one of the heads of my sixth form leadership team, I worked with a large team of 18 to organise and execute over a week of school festivities for over 600 people in our school. I was primarily in charge of the financial matters and money-raising aspects of the task, giving students the option of buying a wristband for the entire week or paying at the door. We ended up raising around £2000. This demonstrates my teamwork, organisation and project management skills.

What I can do for you

  • Having attended a variety of insight schemes at law firms like Clifford Chance, Milbank and Linklaters and secured schemes at firms like Slaughter & May and HSF, I can source sponsorships for the society and maintain existing ones
  • Ensure budget is monitored effectively to allow for the financing of events
  • Collaborate with the team to allow for continued smooth operations
Christopher Lim

I'm standing to be Treasurer to bring our members more engagement: more insight events and collaborations with firms, and more information sessions to widen access for students from all subjects to start a career in law.

I'm standing to continue to support and expand on our diverse range of workshops, insight events, and forums to engage our members, increase our exposure, and give our members the best time.

I'm standing to run more workshops on scholarships, bursaries, and contextual-based opportunities so law careers are more accessible to all—and for everyone to have fun in the process!

I will support sustainable finances and use our funds to support inclusive and accessible competitions and events that give us the exposure we need to gain more experience.

I envision our society being able to engage with more sponsors than ever and have a collaborative relationship. I would help create and support more regular workshops on pro bono, applications advice, commercial awareness, and assessment centres.

I see a space where we can discuss larger commercial issues. We can help create new networks of mentorship and collaboration between all of us as members, and we can lift each other up.

Inter-society collaboration is a legacy to build on, and we can continue to engage more, hear more perspectives, and learn from each other.

Timothy Chau

Hello everyone! This year, I've had the privilege of serving as the events officer for our society, and I'm eager to continue contributing in the role of treasurer next year.

As a penultimate non-law student, I deeply understand the challenges of entering the legal industry. Therefore, if elected as treasurer, my focus will be on the following key areas:

  • Initiating early outreach to sponsors during the summer to secure more opportunities for our members
  • Maximizing the use of our funding to acquire valuable career resources for our members

It is really great to have met so many of you through the society this year. Your vote is invaluable to me, and I look forward to the possibility of serving you again in the coming year!

Callum Gregor

I've enjoyed the events put on by the society throughout the year. Having the chance to give back and promote opportunities in law to those like myself next year would be a fantastic privilege.

Before coming to university, I had little-to-no legal knowledge. Yet through the society I've been able to meet fellow students more educated than myself, people in the industry, and learn about new opportunities to lay the foundations for a future career. It gave me the confidence to go on and pursue internship opportunities on my own with RBC's Legal Affairs & Compliance group this summer.

As treasurer, I can offer a solid work ethic, strong time management, and my ultimate priority would be to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the background so members can get the most out of their experience next year.
