William Antcliff

I am running for Vice President of the UCL Hiking Club because I am incredibly passionate about both hiking and delivering the best possible experience for all members. Since joining the club, I have attended several of the regular weekend hikes, both of this year's residentials and multiple social events. My time as a walk leader has massively enhanced my ability to lead and support larger groups, often in challenging environments, and given me valuable insight into how the club management works.

I grew up in the Peak District and have since explored numerous regions across all the UK; more recently I challenged myself by completing solo hikes in multiple European countries. This, along with my experience on multiple committees during my undergraduate studies, means I am ideally suited for this role. I have always enjoyed the logistics behind organising holidays and events and Vice President would certainly push this interest/skill to the next level.

Finally, I have thoroughly enjoyed hiking alongside the wonderfully diverse range of members within our club and would love the opportunity to provide amazing residentials as Vice President. I will work hard to ensure we continue to deliver the excellent quality that members expect. I will also strive to take on feedback and continue to diversify our offerings so that all members continue to feel challenged and have the opportunity to explore new and exciting regions of the UK and Europe!

Sejal Jain

Hello everyone!

I'm Sejal, a first-year BSc Economics student, running for the Vice-President role in UCL Hiking Club. Actively involved and deeply impacted by the club's transformative experiences, I'm eager to contribute significantly to the incoming committee.

As Vice President, I focus on organizing captivating hiking trips within the UK and internationally. With a background in event planning, I bring organizational skills for efficient trip management and participant satisfaction. Confident that my leadership style, marked by effective communication and collaboration, will enhance activities and attract newcomers.

In the coming year, I aim to elevate UCL Hiking Club's status as a premier outdoor community by:

  • Strengthening partnerships with local and international organisations for unique hiking experiences.
  • Organising joint hikes with other universities for diverse, memorable experiences, excited to strengthen connections within the wider hiking community.
  • Facilitating workshops promoting environmental awareness, responsible hiking practices, and a deeper connection with nature.
  • Introducing structured hiking training sessions to empower beginners, enhancing overall inclusivity.

My goal is to make the UCL Hiking Club integral to our members' university experience, fostering a love for the outdoors and creating lasting memories.

Thank you for taking the time to read this—I really appreciate it!

Yilang Wang

The Hiking Club is the first club I joined since participating in the Welcome Fair. I really enjoy having the opportunity to hike outdoors and it brings me happiness. Since last October, I have actively participated in 14 hikes with the UCL Hiking Club, covering a total distance of 276 KM.

I believe I am qualified for the position of Vice President due to my leadership, planning, and communication skills. When I was temporarily appointed as the Walk Leader during the Eynsford Circular hike, I was able to handle the situation perfectly and got all the hikers to their destination at a comfortable pace. My solo trips through the Tibet Autonomous Region in China, Turkey, Egypt, and Iran, where I planned the itineraries and hikes throughout the trip, demonstrated my ability to plan weekend hikes and residential hikes. I am accustomed to dealing with strangers from different nationalities in different countries while travelling alone. In high school, I was the class monitor, coordinating between classmates and teachers. When I came to UCL, I maintained a good relationship with my classmates and professors.

If elected, I will do my best as the Vice President. Together with the President and other members, I will embrace criticism and suggestions with an inclusive attitude, and work to build the UCL Hiking Club into a more attractive and dynamic association, "Die Luft der Freiheit weht".
