Ryoma Okabe

Hey I’m Ryoma and I’m running to be your President next year.

Having been your Communications Officer this year (achieving a 33% increase in club Instagram followers), I’ve gained a good understanding of UCL bureaucracy and areas we can improve on. I genuinely adore the family atmosphere at the club, and would love for more people to join our community!!

The 3 pillars of my campaign are:

Sub-Committee

  • Increase manpower. Eg. It will allow the Comms Officer to manage the camera crew and make more YouTube videos
  • Enable first-years (undergrad & postgrad) to experience committee operations

Inclusivity

  • Keep weekend hikes beginner-friendly and residentials more challenging
  • Monthly socials to be friendly to non-alcohol members

Outreach Events

  • More fundraisers and volunteering to give back to the community
  • More collaboration hikes >>> more friends!

Thank you so much for reading and feel free to contact @ryoma8417 on insta! Whoever you vote for, I hope to see you on many more hikes in the future :)

William Antcliff

I am running for President of the UCL Hiking Club because I am incredibly passionate about both hiking and delivering the best possible experience for all members. Since joining the club, I have attended several of the regular weekend hikes, both of this year's residentials and multiple social events. My time as a walk leader has massively enhanced my ability to lead and support larger groups, often in challenging environments, and given me valuable insight into how the club management works.

I held five different committee positions across three different societies during my undergraduate studies - including the role of President during the height of the pandemic in 2020. This has provided me with a strong skillset (leadership, time management, teamwork, effective communications, etc.) which being President requires. I have always enjoyed giving back to the student community and being President would allow me to continue to do so in a way which fully utilises my skills and interests.

Finally, I have thoroughly enjoyed hiking alongside the wonderfully diverse range of members within our club and would love the opportunity to lead a new committee as President. I will work hard to ensure we continue to deliver the excellent quality of hikes, events and trips that our members expect. I will also strive to lead a team which seeks to improve the experience for all members and that is catered to all skill levels and interests.
