Vivian Lee

Hi, everyone!

I’m Vivian, a second-year Geography student, running for UCLGES' President.

Over the past two years, I have actively participated in UCLGES, starting as a Marketing Executive and currently serving as the Marketing Director. Through these roles, I have had the privilege of collaborating with dedicated committee members across all departments, contributing to the success of our exciting initiatives. From creating comprehensive marketing plans for major events like the GBF and for the Green360 Newsletter, to fostering marketing partnerships with other societies, I have gained valuable insight into UCLGES' mission and the challenges it faces.

I am committed to advancing the UCLGES' prosperity with the following vision:

  1. Diversifying career panels: In addition to sustaining our existing startups, consulting and finance-focused career panels, I am determined to broaden the scope to support students interested in a wide range of career paths.
  2. Expanding partnerships: I will focus on inter- and intra-university collaborations to provide members with more opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.
  3. Establishing a distinct societal image: I aim to enhance the society's social media presence to differentiate UCLGES from similar career-oriented societies.

It'd be my pleasure to work with individuals who share the same passion for invoking changes for a greener economy. I would be delighted to have your support in making UCLGES great and genuine.

Samia Dumbuya

Hello! My name is Samia (she/they), I am currently a part-time Master’s student studying MSc Sustainable Resources: Economics, Policy and Transitions.

As the Society’s President, I hope to:

  • Broaden the discourse of Green Economies by including insights and alternative economic ideas from the Global South.
  • Economics does not have to be an overly technical, clinical subject. Transforming our economy into a system that encourages environmentally-friendly behaviours requires creative thinking.
  • I hope to set an inclusive and communal tone for the Green Economy society, where different views and perspectives are welcome and respected.

“That all sounds great, Samia but what experience do you have leading a society?”

  • I’m a freelance facilitator and community organiser and I have a breadth of experience engaging various communities by organising community discussions and spaces.
  • I am part of a collective, Decolonising Economics, a UK-wide collective exploring alternative economics.
  • I have been running workshops for community groups, art and education institutions, NGOs and local authorities exploring climate justice and alternative systems for 5+ years.
  • I have an international network of changemakers working towards transforming the global economy to a sustainable and ethical economy. They can provide insights of the challenges they face in their field of work.

Vote for me to build a society which celebrates alternative thinking and reframing economics!

Yunhao Chen

Hello everyone! I'm Yunhao, a second year PPE student running for the president of the Green Economy Society.

After obtaining the ESG Investing Certificate, I hope to create more value for our society and the green economy industry. Being actively participating in the management of different societies, I have developed skills and passion that will help me bring the best I can for our society. I hope to apply my experiences in the marketing and finance industries to promote the development of our society. Having capacity to cooperate well, I believe we can achieve our goals together.

I'm respectful and open to meeting new people. During my tenure, I will listen to your feedback genuinely, seek solutions actively, and work as a team to implement the goals that we all want to achieve.

I will implement the following if elected:

-Bring attractive and insightful activities to our society members and regularly collecting feedback from members for further improvement.

-Increase the society’s social media exposure and expand the influence of our community.

-Promote collaborative activities and exchange of ideas with relevant societies and associations.

-Recruit data analysts to help the creation of our society's newsletters.

-Plan to produce regular market insight reports for our society members

Your support means a lot to me, and together, we can cultivate a more sustainable and interconnected society!

Egor Epifanov

Members of the Green Economy Society, greetings.

I'll keep my statement short and simple-

The green transition is the inescapable future of our global economy. Every economic sector will undergo colossal changes in order to become a part of a net zero emissions world by 2050. We are now in a moment in history when we set this transformation trend for decades to come. Under my leadership, the Green Economy Society will be the place where you will become a part of this great beginning.

When elected, to ensure that the statement above holds genuine commitment, I will:

- Forge strategic partnerships with organisations leading the way in the low carbon transition, opening doors to unparalleled career development opportunities for the Green Economy Society members.

- Expand the society’s presence outside of UCL through cooperation with corresponding societies across various universities.

- Host insightful speakers and networking events that will help to explore and understand the current trends in a rapidly developing sustainability-related environment.

- Organise debates regarding pressing and appropriate topics to facilitate critical thinking and intellectual collaboration.

By casting your vote in my favour, you’re securing a bright future for the Green Economy Society.
