As someone who has always craved for an opportunity to discuss complex scientific ideas with individuals who share this passion, I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity to contribute to this amazing initiative to provide students who hold a genuine passion for genetics with a platform to share and discuss their ideas and discover new interests in genetics research. There is a certain beauty and comfort in discussing scientific concepts one is truly passionate about and it is wonderful to see the Journal Club enabling this. As the founder and chair of the Science Research and Discussion Society in my sixth form, I have gained invaluable insight into what it takes to organize and run regular society meetings and facilitate and lead educational discussions for students on a wide variety of topics from novel gene therapy approaches to the development genetically edited stem cell therapies. I hope to contribute to the Journal Club’s role in providing a space for students to explore in a lot of depth and think critically about important concepts in genetics research, as well as have insightful and truly thought-provoking discussions with specialists and experts in the field! I will carefully listen to feedback to tailor speaker invitations to the students’ most burning interests! As a Cancer Biomedicine student, I’m also keen to invite researchers from the UCL Cancer Institute and others who have made fascinating contributions to important disciplines in genetics research.
