What about a UCL Fintech Society that is not just what it is today, but a thriving community where every meetup sparks new ideas, connections, and opportunities for impact? That is the vision I am passionate about bringing to life. With my journey from creating my high school’s tech club to co-founding a web 3.0 protocol and currently steering a fintech startup, I have navigated the waters of innovation, management, and leadership. These experiences have sharpened my ability to foster communities around fintech.

Lately, I have felt the lack of a vibrant community in our society. Bridging this gap, I will make sure all meetings are not just a formality but a melting pot filled with memorable encounters and ideas.

Being part of the Fintech society must come with opportunities to innovate, influence, and inspire. This year, I propose the creation of the Fintech Lab, a collaborative group within our society working alongside the research division to brainstorm, prototype, and test concepts, aiming to develop tangible products. I see this role as a mission to bring our society to new heights—where members leave a lasting impact. We cannot let our huge potential and talents idle - let's build great things over it!

Let's together make the UCL Fintech Society a beacon for fintech enthusiasts, a platform for doers, and a community of inspired and valued students. Join me in shaping a society that is more than its name, where fintech is the medium but people and impact are the message.

Lincoln HM Cheng

Hi all! I'd like to run for President of FinTech Society this year. Starting off with my personal experience,

Research:

I'm the current Vice President of the Bentham Brooks Institute Think Tank, served as a Research Assistant for UCL Centre for Research and Migration Analysis and a Student Researcher for UCL AI Society Nexus Labs.

Leadership:

My leadership acumen is illustrated by my experience in organising large scale conferences such as the UCLMUN as Deputy Secretary General with 190+ participants, and Leading societies such as UCLUNA and Bentham Brooks Institute as Vice President;

FinTech:
Research Team Co-Leader for the Technological Risk & Governance Research Group in BBI Think Tank, leading a research project on AI governance and surveillance, and also worked as an intern in a FinTech Department and designed various FinTech projects, including a Blockchain Realtor and AI Text-to-Speech system

I promise five major changes that would happen under my leadership;

1. Develop the FinTech Society Careers Programme (*Nearly Done*)

2. Increase collaboration with other societies such as UCL EFS society and co-hosting events

3. Partnership with FinTech Sector professionals for speaker events

4. Further developing the flagship FinTech conference quality and turnout

5. Increase publicity of UCL FinTech Society (*Done*)

I would love to continue my work from the last term, and for that would appreciate your vote of confidence :)

Thirisa Kalatharan

Becoming the President of the Fintech Society will be a great opportunity to create a real impact within the realm of financial technology. As President, I would be responsible for shaping the society's vision, leading its members and organising events and initiatives that promote awareness and understanding of fintech innovation. Some ways I would do this is having posts weekly that explain a certain technical term surrounding fintech such as block-chain and have bi-weekly posts that include a summary of recent fintech-related news.,

I have progressed from being a FYR to currently being VP of Marketing. I have been under two presidency and I have gathered enough knowledge about how to run society through high levels of organisational skills, strategic thinking and communication.

Having been involved in promoting the Global Fintech Conference, that is something I would like to continue onto next year and make our flagship event. Being a Marketing VP previously, I have heard all the ideas that various departments have had, from creating podcasts to coding lessons, as my role as President I would help bring these to life though efficient and effective planning.

From managing a team of 3 executives, I believe I have developed my problem solving skills, which becomes significant in the case do not go to plan and alternative measures are needed.

I look forward to being able to improve the society and continue the success of UCL Fintech Society.

Chiara Siracusa

Hi!

I’m Chiara and I’m a second year undergraduate in Biochemical Engineering. Being part of the Fintech society last year has allowed me to learn so much about advances in technologies in this emerging and rapidly progressing field. This has been made possible for me through events within the Fintech society where I had the opportunity to speak with experts and delve deeper into the subject despite having no prior knowledge.

Next academic year, I’d like to take a bigger lead and help more and more people get a better understanding of the future of financial services. As the president, I would ensure that the rest of the committee is fully equipped to collaborate and invite speakers, create events and socials through which our members can both learn from experts as well if from each other.

I hope to see you in Fintech society as a member or committee member!

Jan Chow

Hello everyone! I’m Jan, a current research analyst for the UCL Fintech x Blockchain Society project. Having interned at a FinTech startup in Hong Kong before, I deeply understand the full potential of FinTech in the current world. Moreover, my experience as a FYE for Kickstart global allows me to equip an entrepreneurial mindset which helps me to  take a further step on innovation.

As the proposed President of next year, I wish to implement the following plans:

FinTrepreneur: I hope to encourage people to become entrepreneurs in FinTech. This includes collaborations with Kickstart Global, UCL Entrepreneurs Society and many others. My plan is to find mentors for every participant in the program with step by step guidance on how to raise funds, advise on your idea stage and your prototype.

FinTrade: Upon the current role of Quant Ventures, I hope to seek more opportunities to let different people know about the field of quantitative trading which raises tremendous attention. This includes occasional workshops on some relevant statistical and financial mathematical knowledge about quant trading.

FinTalk: Who doesn’t like to talk with professionals or even just socials? I hope to have more networking events connecting professionals, committees and members in this field in the upcoming years.

By voting for me, I will use my background, along with my entrepreneurial motivations, to make FinTech Society a one-stop-for-all society for fintech lovers in UCL.
