Make EFS great again

Kishan Patel

Dear EFS members,

I’m Kishan Patel, running for Finance VP of EFS. As current Finance FYR of EFS and Treasurer FYR of The Economist’s Society, I have gained much experience working closely with UCL alumni and the EFS committee, delivering insightful events for all members. I seek to continue the fantastic work of the current Finance VP and committee, bringing EFS from strength to strength for its 70th anniversary.

Engaging in finance internships and work experience at global firms, including Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, and Bank of America, I plan to utilise my solid foundation in financial management within the society, inviting experts from these firms for future events.

I will fully utilise my past leadership roles and EFS experience to provide a dynamic and enriching society, delivering a promise to make EFS the best place to launch your career in finance.

My agenda involves:

  • Expansion: widen the range of EFS events with informational seminars, networking events, finance workshops, and mentorship, and have larger, more regular finance-related events, with at least one event every week!
  • Enrichment: boost financial literacy and attractive skill sets among members through technical workshops, ensuring all members excel in obtaining their future careers.
  • Partnerships: develop our partnerships with UCL societies and external universities (LSE and KCL), ensuring access to more events through joint projects.

Thank you for your time; I would be honoured to serve as your VP.

Josh Chan

As a biomedical engineering student, despite my academic concentration on engineering, the complex world of finance has always attracted me, driving me to pursue chances that combine the two fields.

Being someone who has actively participated in fireside chats and workshop events from various societies across universities, I completely understand the demands and expectations of attendees and how the events may be improved.

As the Vice President of Finance, my main goal is to attract and invite influential figures not just from the financial industry such as investment banks and private equity firms, but also executives from S&P 500 companies that oversee their company's financial assets. Hosting fireside chats and events that allow members from all disciplines an opportunity to network with industry experts and gain insight into their daily work. In addition, inviting UCL alumni to offer informative seminars to help members grow their careers in finance and enhance their skills.

By doing so, I intend to work with our committee to develop a fully automatic booking system for our fireside chat and workshop events, a poll system that allows members to vote for their next preferred speaker. Prioritising the questions of participants towards the speaker using an online questionnaire system during fireside chat events. As well as expanding our society's exposure to the industry through professional networks such as LinkedIn, and attracting various sponsors who can fund our events.
