Data science is in high demand, and its significance will only grow with the rise of AI. As such, I aim to boost accessibility to data science by running for Head of Research so peers can learn from articles catering to all levels and DSS members’ research projects with professionals.

From writing 8 research reports averaging a 1st for my degree thus far (some individually and some as group work), I have experience in both research and content development. In 6th form, I oversaw 2 years’ worth of publications as the editor-in-chief of our student-led science magazine. As a former Model United Nations committee member, I researched current events (winning Best Speaker twice locally and internationally) on top of coordinating conferences, a valuable skill in organizing datathon logistics. It also familiarized me with team management, which I am developing further as the leader for a vocal performance team. My scriptwriting skills from writing for a 2022 interschool radio drama competition — winning the Best Script Award — are transferable to podcasts. Thanks to my degree, I am also familiar with python and web development tools.

Next year, I hope to bring the DSS to new heights by promoting UCL DSS through easily digestible short-form video media, like tiktoks and reels about how data science affects different aspects of everyday life, will also help to increase visibility and awareness of issues in data science to a wider audience.

I hope you will vote for me!

Evelyn Kwan

Hi Everyone!

I'm Evelyn, an incoming second-year Management Science student. I love all things technology, film and data related! As a former first-year rep, I had so much fun working with the podcast team and now am taking on the challenge to run for Head of Research at DSS.

I'm someone who's easy to communicate with, adaptable to different situations, and always open to hearing new ideas. My previous experience in leading the production of a documentary on playground design, delving into government papers, design plans, and scientific research makes me a good fit for this role. I'm skilled at turning complex information into accessible media, like visual documentaries, which I've shared with audiences including teachers and parents.

One thing I'm really passionate about is making data science more accessible to all of us - exploring how technology adds value to society. I love diving into podcasts like Hidden Brain, Everyday AI, whether it's exploring the latest trends in data science or diving into thought-provoking topics, I am eager to collaborate with passionate students and drive cool initiatives next year!

Thanks for reading this and I'd really appreciate your support :)

Pei Wen Lim

As a second-year student in BSc Social Sciences with Data Science, I will bring my theoretical knowledge and practical skills to the role of Head of Research in the DSS.

My strong interest in data science, coupled with a background in social sciences, equips me to effectively maintain the DSS research blog with regular publications and ensure the content of our weekly DSS podcast is engaging and informative.

Moreover, I am committed to working closely with researchers to provide valuable research opportunities for all members and ensuring that our Datathons showcase the diverse applications of data science.

Thank you for considering me for this role, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the Data Science Society! ✨
