Candidates

Keira Suain

My name is Keira Suain and I am excited to put forth my candidacy for the position of Welfare Secretary. I bring with me a strong passion for both welfare and cricket, and I strongly believe that I possess the qualities required.

Welfare is something I have always championed. During sixth form, I took part in a scheme where I conducted weekly lessons for younger students, focusing on mental health and wellbeing strategies. This has equipped me with the skills to provide support and offer advice.

Additionally, I am committed to inclusivity and making sure everyone is heard. My involvement in a volunteering program, where I provide guidance to a state school student on the medicine application process, reflects this dedication. As someone who has navigated unfamiliar environments, I appreciate the importance of creating safe spaces.

Furthermore, my empathetic nature parallels the qualities required. Moulded by my own experiences and listening to the experiences of others, I am always there for the people around me when they need support, demonstrating strong communication skills.

My goal is to cultivate a sense of belonging through social activities and awareness campaigns and to ensure that the cricket society is a safe space for every member. My aspiration is that everyone who shares our love for cricket can do so in a community where they feel welcomed, and their voices heard. I am committed to promoting this sense of community and will dedicate myself to fulfilling my role.

Safeena Khan

I would love to be Welfare Secretary for UCL WCC because I want future members to feel as welcomed as I did when I joined this year. WCC has been a safe space for me to have fun and learn a new sport without judgement. I want more people to feel confident and excited joining a new sports club without prior knowledge as I did, while having the support and team spirit to keep improving.

As someone who appreciates relaxing socials like arts&craft, watching movies and board games, I am confident I will be able to create a variety of activities for everyone to get involved, that will go hand-in-hand with more extroverted activities lead by the social secs. I’m also open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas for welfare activities. I hope to host at least one every half term so I get the chance to catch up with members and get any feedback.

I am a very good listener and I’m always here to have a chat about anything. I promise to be a person of trust for every member of this group if they have any concerns related to the club or anything external. I’m always up for a laugh but can also have serious conversations when needed.

Please text me or email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions. I hope you will put your trust in me for the next academic year :)
