I discovered my passion for BJJ when I was training in Bondi, Sydney in 2022. The positive community, self-discipline, and personal growth that BJJ offers strongly resonated with me and through countless hours on the mat, I not only honed my skills in BJJ but also developed invaluable friendships.

Starting at UCL, I was elated to find a vibrant BJJ community right on campus. I have been able to continue my BJJ journey and further immerse myself in its culture, values and principles.

I would like to give back to the BJJ community that has given me so much. Whether it be physical injuries, mental health concerns, or simply balancing the demands of academic life with training commitments, as Welfare Secretary, I would be very eager to bring my ideas to the table to amend these potential issues members face. I'd like to advocate for the well-being of all members as well as offer emotional support and/or guidance where needed. I would also look forward to working collaboratively with other society representatives to implement ideas that continue to promote a positive training environment.

As Welfare Secretary, I would be dedicated to ensuring that the society remains welcoming and accessible to all members, and that everyone feels respected, valued, and supported in their journey with BJJ.

To conclude, I am eager to contribute my skills, experience and passion to improving the well-being and success of the BJJ Society at UCL. Thank you for considering my application!

Hi, I'm Nicole, a 1st year Natural Sciences student.

Why am I standing? There's no chairs.

In addition to that, this society has given me such a wonderful opportunity to grow in confidence and build lots of strong connections with its members, and one of the main contributors has been the incredibly supportive network this year's committee has built. Being able to come to practice and knowing that I'm always entering an environment where I feel safe and comfortable to train, has been invaluable to the enjoyment this society brings.

Therefore I am extremely committed to maintaining a sense of community and safety within the society. I care deeply about the wellbeing of all our members, and am always open to talking about and addressing any concerns, problems or general comments they might have about the way the society is run. This could be relating to the respectful culture we are careful to cultivate, or any individual problems that might impact their ability to enjoy the wonderful opportunities BJJ has to offer!

Emotional, physical and mental wellbeing is something I take very seriously, and will take a proactive stance in upholding for all of our members. I will arrange regular opportunities for check-ins, maintain effective communication with the rest of committee, and will generally always be available to grab for a chat!

I would love for the opportunity to give back to this wonderful community, that has provided me with such a sense of belonging and enjoyment.
