Creating a strong senior men's squad requires someone with experience with the boat club and commitment to the squad. I have spent two years rowing at UCL, and have been Maintenance Officer since May of last year. I attended weekly committee meetings and worked closely with the president, treasurer and captains, and have delivered on all the points on my manifesto from last year and am committed to doing so this year.

As Senior Men's Captain I will focus on the following:

1. Consistent Land Training: This year organized land training sessions both early in the morning and in the evening have proved to be the most effective method of group land training. I plan to continue this, as well as introducing variation with some more fun weights and steady state sessions, to maintain motivation within the squad.

2. Maximising Water Time: I plan to prioritize the most committed rowers on the water and in race crews, getting people used to rowing in the same shells and with the same rigging as much as possible.

3. Increasing involvement in the squad: I plan to involve the M2 and M3 boats in UH events, so people interested in more casual rowing will have a chance to race and possibly win in a more relaxed setting.

These are the areas which I will have the most control over and which can yield the best results if done right. I have many more plans that could not fit in this manifesto. Next year's senior men have a lot of potential, and strong leadership will enable them to succeed.

Having embarked on my rowing journey as a novice just a year ago, I have developed a deep appreciation for the sport. The commitment required for training on the water and ergs, and the invaluable camaraderie fostered within our team have made this past year an incredibly fulfiling experience. As I transition to senior rowing, I am keen to harness this passion and channel it into leadership within our esteemed club.

My 3 key priorities will be:

  • Accommodating varying levels of commitment to rowing to have both competitive and leisurely squads.
  • Maintaining a competitive, fun, and close-knit culture.
  • Ensuring organisational efficiency around training, the boathouse and events.

I recognise the importance of attentive listening and understanding the different levels of commitment in the club. Actively engaging with all members, gauging ambitions and concerns, I want to stimulate an environment where competition can thrive. I believe that providing the necessary support and encouragement, we can achieve results both individually and collectively. Equally important to rowing itself, is the spirit and enjoyment within our club. Encouraging participation in socials will ensure bonding among our rowers.

I am deeply committed to the advancement of UCL Boat Club and the fulfilment of its members' aspirations. With your support, I am confident that I can effectively serve as Senior Men's Captain, leading our team with integrity and determination.
