I never expected RUMSBC to become such a big part of my first year, from finding the FDATR post on Instagram during freshers’ week to now post UH Head. From the various outings, socials, and painful ergs, RUMSBC has been core of many memories in the last 6 months.

With my past experience designing various promotional videos and websites, I hope to capture the joy of RUMSBC as Media and Comms Officer. Whether this be our racing achievements, socials, or the amazing work to become the most inclusive society, the various social channels are a way to show that everyone belongs at RUMSBC! Having a good social profile is essential to recruiting more freshers and continuing to grow our RUMSBC family!

So, what are my plans as Media and Comms Officer:

  • Create new promotional videos for the 2024 freshers. Additionally make more effort to introduce our amazing future novice captains who will be faces leading the next generation of RUMSBC.
  • Revive the RUMSBC YouTube with some racing day cox POV footage (we’ve all seen the videos). Also revive the RUMSBC website with all information about our amazing club.
  • Sharing our journey to become the top crews on the Tideway! This is through consistent posts to tell a compelling story about our training, socials, and our dedication to building a more inclusive society. Continue to share our racing day success and key events like FDATR through epic montages.

Whilst I am still relatively new, hopefully with the above plan I can count on your vote!

I would love to take responsibility for communicating the club's activities, achievements, and values to a broader audience, including other sports teams, those looking to join RUMSBC, friends and families and all those who stalk our Instagram (guilty). Through strategic social media campaigns and engaging content, I can attract new members, sponsors, and supporters while also fostering a sense of community among current members. By showcasing the club's successes and promoting events, I can build upon the established active community both online and offline. In particular, I am keen on working alongside the fundraisers and inclusivity officer to promote charity events such as the 24-hour ergathon and unique opportunities like the Pride in Sport Discussion to make the most of our platform and leave a positive, lasting impact on the wider community.

Secondly, I am keen to work as a team with other members of the committee (and put my love of Google Drives to good use) to contribute to the growth and development of RUMSBC, highlight our dedication, diversity and show off what an amazing, welcoming bunch of people we are :)

RUMS BC has become a massive part of my life; it has shaped my university experience.

Despite having a couple of our races cancelled, this club means so much more to me than just rowing.

As a fresher who never really thought about rowing until the fair at the Royal Free, the Instagram account was a way to get to know what RUMS BC was like, as well as learning more about the committee, who seemed a lot less intimidating than first impressions at sports night! Regularly posting on the Instagram will help to keep freshers engaged, both in terms of rowing and social events. Furthermore, having a few short Instagram videos to highlight what each committee member’s role is as well as introducing them could help freshers to get to know the club a bit better (coming from someone who initially had no idea what a cox captain was).

Posting about fundraising events is also essential, and with the Richmond Half planned for September, working with the fundraisers to start a fundraising campaign on Instagram early will hopefully see it be as successful as the ergathon and the Women’s 10k were.

Archie has done a great job of collecting photos after events and sharing them to the club, and I believe that I could follow in his footsteps and ensure that all of the madness of RUMS BC is well-documented.

At the detriment of my formative mark, I have been at almost every social and outing, and so I truly believe that this commitment to the club will carry over if I get the role.
