In the short but meaningful time I have spent as a part of the novice women’s squad this year, I have developed a passion for rowing that I hope to share with incoming novices through the role of Novice Women’s Captain. I want to establish an environment where each member of the novice women’s squad feels supported and capable, on and off the water, individually and as a team. I will ensure that the squad remains competitive and ambitious while still retaining balance, making sure each session is as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.

I will support the squad with communication and inclusion in mind, aiming to provide:

  • Advance communication about crews, training, and general scheduling
  • Opportunities for squad discussion and feedback
  • A strong community within the novice women, with many opportunities for bonding and getting to know each other, especially at the start of the year
  • A welcoming environment throughout UCLBC that encourages novice women participation and the development of intersquad relationships; introductions to key members of the club in the first few weeks

I believe my previous leadership and teaching experience has helped me develop strong organisational and collaborative skills, and my passion, responsibility, and motivation all make me a great candidate for this role. You will be able to count on me to stay enthusiastic and committed to providing a fun and successful novice year! Plus I will continually remind all the novices to check their gates!!!
