Asian Social Network Society: Welfare Officer

I believe in ASN as an organisation that serves not just as a place for everyone to feel at home, but also one where we learn more about ourselves and others around us.

I'm from Singapore, and we have a very large Singaporean student body here at UCL. But at the same time, I am a first-generation university student from a middle-income background. Serving in the community back home for 6 years as an advocate for residents, writing advocacy letters for them to government agencies and other similar organisations, has been enlightening for me, and made me better understand why caring for the welfare of those around me is not just important, but fundamental to the proper functioning of any organisation, or society.

As welfare officer, I promise to be open to any and all concerns and suggestions, with a no-restrictions approach to handling feedback and concerns. Furthermore, leveraging on my extensive experience in community service and leadership during my national service will enable me to better work with other members of the committee in ensuring that objectives of societal welfare are delivered properly to the level that is expected by all of you.

Thus, a vote for me is a vote to ensure that welfare is not kept as a support function, but placed at the heart and centre of every activity, and every action taken by the society, because this is not just a society, it is our home, away from home.
