Hi Bascers,
Are you ready for the upcoming year?
If you don’t know me my name is Carla and I am a 3rd year Arts and Sciences student currently on a year abroad in Canada. As we approach a new academic year, I would love to engage more actively within the degree and make it amazing!
Over the past years, I've understood the expectations and dynamics within our program while being a transition mentor or when talking with my friends.
Mindful of all this - I'd like to both keep the elements that bring us together such as balls, pizza parties, pub nights etc but also organize events that combine the arts and sciences in collaboration with other societies such as Photography and Filmmaking workshops or collaboration with the cross-disciplinary UCL institute of making, located right in front of our common room.
Moreover, as our degree is unique I know that it can be difficult for some students to make choices about internships, modules or masters. Organizing events that encourage dialogue between students would enable us to make more informed choices and be even more prepared for our dream careers!
Last but not least, I will make sure to take care of our beloved common room (and cow)!
I can’t wait for the year to come! Vote for me!
Carla
As president of the BASc society, I would like to pursue the society’s incredible efforts of creating a safe and inclusive space for BAScers of all years. Being new to BASc this year, I immediately found great comfort in the BASc community through the bustling common room and the delicious Thursday afternoon donuts. The BASc Ball was also a success, and I look forward to it next year - always a good excuse to dress up :). To ensure this vibrancy year-round, I am committed to expanding upon these cherished traditions while introducing fresh initiatives. One of such initiatives is the creation of study groups exclusive to BASc, fostering collaboration and support to keep us motivated and on track (#academicweapons). My time as first-year representative of our course highlighted the importance of communication both amongst ourselves and between us and faculty. I want to ensure every voice in our community is not only heard but also actively included within the BASc society. Let’s make this next academic year unforgettable #gocoworgohome!
Being the Year 1 representative for the current year, I've gained valuable experience and insight into the needs and aspirations of our members within the BASc society. Through active engagement and dedication to our community, I've developed a deep commitment to fostering inclusivity, promoting academic excellence, and facilitating opportunities for growth and development.
Standing as the President of the BASc society is a natural progression for me, as it allows me to further advocate for the interests of our members and lead initiatives that enhance their university experience. My decision to stand for this position stems from a genuine desire to serve and make a meaningful impact on behalf of the student body. I will ensure that every voice is heard and valued, regardless of background or perspective. I will foster a culture of collaboration and mutual respect, where we celebrate our differences and unite in our shared goals.
With my experience, passion, and dedication, I am confident in my ability to effectively lead the BASc society and work collaboratively with fellow students, faculty, and staff to create a vibrant and supportive community that empowers every member to thrive academically and personally.
With your support and input, together we can continue to build a BASc society that reflects the diverse interests and voices of our community. Let's work hand in hand to make our vision a reality. Thank you for your trust and consideration.
