I am standing for Society President because I believe in the importance of Amnesty International having representation at the university level, encouraging student engagement with and discussions of human rights and human right issues. My personal interest in human rights is perhaps best illustrated by my active engagement with human rights based charities such as The Refugee Council and the The Helen Bamber Foundation, as well as additional other related volunteering roles in areas such as education and mental health support work. Further, as a Global Humanitarian Studies undergraduate, I have had the opportunity to learn about rights-based approaches within the humanitarian sector, and have found this fascinating, further solidifying my interest in human rights. As Society President, I would strive to engage with the UCL community, facilitating the organisation of society events and representing the society within Union meetings, committing my time towards this end.
