Election post
ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ
I’m Sakina, a first year Chemical Engineer and I am running to be your Sister’s Representative. Reflecting on the past year, ABSOC has been the first time I’ve experienced being part of a tight-knit community. Being an international student from Zimbabwe where I didn’t get much of a chance to integrate within the community due to the limited Shia population, ABSOC has served as a refreshing outlet from the mundane, everyday (and sometimes stressful) academic lifestyle - it’s been an integral part of my University life so far. Not only have I made valuable connections, but I have also grown spiritually through all the wonderful events hosted by the Committee and thus, I feel as if I have a debt to pay back to this society. As Sister’s Rep, I would love to welcome all the Freshers this coming year with the same open, compassionate arms that I was welcomed with, and to help them settle into Uni life. I would also love to relay and represent any views of the members within our society and organise events with the rest of the Committee to create a fun, enjoyable and spiritually-rich environment during our time at UCL.
