My engagement across UCL societies, from the 2's Lacrosse team to Chamber Choir and Live Music, has honed my teamwork, time-management and problem-solving skills.
As Drama Soc’s VP, I’ve deepened my grasp of SU workings, critical for boosting societies’ resources and accessibility. Negotiating with external entities for merchandise and producing a show has prepared me for building beneficial partnerships and outreach opportunities.
Experience in securing grants for a creative arts program at a domestic violence shelter has also refined my financial management and community outreach skills.
As a sociable, compassionate, and approachable person, I've loved connecting with people across different UCL societies. I prioritise improving accessibility for/inclusion of disabled, queer and POC students in societies, as well as reducing financial barriers to activities. While improving facility spaces may take time, I'm prepared with practical, interim solutions. My goal is to expand and fine-tune the opportunities available at UCL, enabling students to fully embrace and enhance their university experience. I believe I have all the necessary skills to implement these plans successfully.
Collaboration:
- Increase social spaces on campus for casual gatherings beyond academic settings
- Enhance integration with the UCL East campus through shuttles
- Establish an inter-clubs communication platform
Opportunities:
- Provide a platform to promote less-known clubs and volunteering opportunities
- Increase funding and training opportunities for club members
- Offer collaborations with international universities
Bookings:
- Create a centralized booking system for supplies & equipment for student projects outside of clubs
- Optimize utilization of current activity and storage spaces
As a committee member in leading positions of arts & media and social entrepreneurship & volunteering clubs for over four years and working on Varsity as a live stream producer, I collaborated with students and the SU, knowing first-hand what our clubs and societies need, and how to work to make it happen!
I am a very easy-going, patient, and organised person that thrives in stressful environments, with experience in leading teams, making decisions, and coming up with creative ideas to engage and motivate the student body, which are valuable qualities for an Activities and Engagement Officer!
Student life at UCL is and must always be unique!
If elected my goal would be to create a vibrant, engaged, and connected community through meaningful and impactful events and activities. I would strive to create events that are inclusive, accessible, and appealing to a broad range of community members because we have an incredible, diverse, student body who deserves to get experiences tailored to their needs and be heard!
- Expansion of spaces available to students. More rooms which can facilitate numerous activities, within the university or externally.
- Integrating Activities with UCL East. Bringing Main Campus festivals + events to Stratford, connecting student life between campuses.
- Strengthening Union relations with bodies like Estates + IOE, to foster positive links between student officers + uni staff.
- Overhauling the website. Expanding + amending sparse, outdated or contradictory information to smoothen the running of activities.
- Explore ways to reduce costs generally for students joining societies.
- Having spent most of my last 2½ years at this university engaging in Union life, I've gained experience regarding the SU, and working on society committees has solidified an understanding of how it functions. It has also highlighted to me a number of these areas where it falls short.
- I serve on the committee of 3 societies. Through these societies I've been involved in planning and leading numerous successful events, large and small scale, such as balls, workshops, society trips and performances.
- I've worked beyond the SU, with UCL Culture, opening access to the UCL Museums + Collections.
- I am committed to UCL's Clubs and Societies. I can imagine no greater pleasure than the opportunity to dedicate myself to building up the incredible community at the SU further.
- I have an experienced and varied background in SU societies, giving me a good grasp of student views.
- For 2 years I've devoted myself to making the Caledonian Society a welcoming space above all, an objective I feel has been successful and I wish to extend.
- I understand where the SU has been and where it stands now. I can also see great potential for where it is headed, under the Student Life Strategy and beyond.
The three measures against which I will determine my success in this role are, as follows: improved accessibility to all societies at UCL, increased collaboration between societies to pool resources and get the most out of their organisation and finally, increased incentives for societies that conduct personal outreach (i.e not simply fundraising but a devotion of members' time, experiences and skills to directly help people in need via direct human encounters and relationships).
I am a Social Secretary of a UCL sports society. I have also worked liaising with professional sportspeople last summer to fulfil their needs in a competitive environment at Queens' Tennis Tournament. These experiences will help me to work on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, within which, all societies will be empowered to achieve enrichment and competitive success.
As well as this, my experience of performing in school plays and as a student of the arts, and keen 'Movember' runner, imbibe me with an equal adoration of all range of student activities taking place at UCL.
I intend to be a relentless and passionate advocate of activities and engagement at UCL, because these are things that make me tick, and have allowed me to enjoy my time here. I pride myself on taking the time to form strong relationships, and look forward to doing this with our host of wonderfully capable society presidents, making sure I hear their needs and work to coordinate all their visions. Above all, if you don't have a clue who I am now, I promise to be a accountable face around campus who will strive to answer and deliver on any of your queries as you bring them to me.
Increased and more transparent communication with student leaders to ensure voices all needs are met
Increase funding and a faster reimbursement system
More streamlined room/equipment booking system to allow all societies to have equal access
Promote cross-campus/uni-wide events so no students are neglected in their uni experience
Better promotion and information of careers events to make finding post-grad options easily accessible
Ensure union solidarity and support of Pro-BDS and free Palestine campaigns
Ensure union solidarity and support of UCU and strike action for benefit of all
This academic year I was on the committee for two societies so I understand the best way to run a society as a student and what are the changes and improvements that need to be made within the union. I want to improve the room booking system to allow for equal access for all societies, make reimbursements faster, and make the union approval system faster with better communication.
I regularly attend events across uni for different societies and clubs and have gained valuable experience, and use this to engage with students from all walks of life for more inclusive and accessible events for all
I'm fun, easygoing and have the time to hear everybody's need and ensure that they are met
I am committed to ensuring all students, especially those who commute or are at other campuses, are able to easily access events and opportunities at UCL and that help is available for those who need it. As a previous committee member I know the changes that need to be made for a better uni experience and I want to use my experience and this position to make those changes and ensure needs are met. Finally, I want to ensure the union remains in solidarity and support of Palestine and Pro-BDS campaigns.
- Increase collaboration between clubs during term-time for events and projects by improving inter-club relations within the Student Union and providing more funding towards these events.
- Enlarge the Varsity series by increasing opportunities for other sports and arts clubs to participate.
- Provide more opportunities for clubs to gain new members, especially in term 2, by having better engagement incentives during fairs and more advertising opportunities during term-time.
- Boost incentives for clubs to integrate UCL East students and alumni.
- Increase volunteering opportunities for clubs.
I have been the Treasurer and Sponsorship and Volunteering Secretary of UCL's Cheerleading Club, where I have been involved in many TeamUCL's campaigns, working closely with the SU.
- During my time as Treasurer I have improved my leadership and people skills, making everyone feel welcome and heard. I have also planned and led many big club events.
- I have expanded the volunteering opportunities of the Cheerleading club, winning Volunteering Club of the Year in 2023.
I will use my previous experiences to bring clubs together and improve their opportunities to deliver their activities.
Activities have been a huge part of my UCL life and I want to bring the same happiness to others. As a commuter, joining clubs was the best way to make amazing friends and memories. I wish to bring more activities that suit everyone's preferences and allow others to make the most of their time at UCL. I am very approachable and easygoing and will be able to integrate a wide range of ideas from club members to make everyone feel welcome. Being part of TeamUCL has allowed me to understand the problems that clubs face regularly so I wish to fix these and get more UCL students involved.
