It is my second year at UCL and I am also a woman working to become an engineer. Therefore, I am aware of and experienced the struggles of being a female in a STEM subject. Besides, I am also an international student from a developing country thus I had to learn how to stand up for myself in a male-dominant field. Hence, I would like to be in a position where I can be with people who understand me and where we can share our experiences and feelings while growing together. Besides, my utopic reason for standing in this position is to have an impact on creating a society where there will be no need to specify being a "Women in STEM" or a "female engineer" because it will not be a minority anymore. Thus, I would highly appreciate a chance to start working on this dream of mine by joining the Women's Engineering Society committee.
Hi! I am Yousra :)
I joined UCL WES last summer, before even coming to the UK!
I am a passionate first-year biomedical engineering student who is deeply convinced that women can bring positive change to the engineering field.
Being UCL WES’s Welfare officer is a way for me to get more involved in the society and help you make the most of your uni experience. This is certainly the reason why I am the first-year Biomedical Engineering class rep: strive together and have an enjoyable uni experience that is full of memories.
I am always willing to help and will cater to your needs! I am open-minded and love meeting people from all around the world. I fluently speak Arabic, French, English, Spanish, and German so we are very likely to find common interests ?
Mental well-being and women empowerment are two key points I will focus on as a Welfare officer. I will make sure you are heard and will actively provide you with support and guidance for careers and opportunities in engineering. I will work closely with the other committee members to make you strive and build a strong network of like-minded (or not!) people.
I can’t wait to get involved in the committee and get to know all the members!
