Manya Gupta

Community service has always been a very transformative experience for me. As a skilled public speaker, I am eager to share my passion and inspire volunteers to join me in making a difference for worthy causes. I have 5+ years of experience in collaborating with local charities and international NGOs to support underserved areas in Rural India. I firmly believe in inclusivity and the power of collective action, and I am dedicated to creating a culture of belonging where every contribution is valued and celebrated. I am committed to working collaboratively, one act of kindness at a time.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As the Volunteering Officer, my main goal would be to inspire and mobilize the college community through community service. I am deeply committed to promoting the benefits of volunteerism and making it accessible and engaging for all. I am determined to champion a range of volunteer projects that reflect the diverse needs and interests of our community, providing our volunteers with the resources and support they need. I want to create a culture of service on campus where students feel empowered to make meaningful differences and take pride in their contributions to the community.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I will be an attentive and approachable leader, always welcoming your ideas and suggestions by being your listening ear. Together, we can create a culture of service and compassion that extends far beyond our campus.

We'd love to continue our work as officers, and make an even greater impact!

Khadija Metwally
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Volunteering is a passion of mine, and is intertwined with my future career path of working with charitable NGOs. My qualifications for this position include 6 years of experience working in Soup Kitchens, clothing drives, and interning in low-income daycares.

These experiences have not only shaped me as a person, but taught me to work under pressure, organise and manage volunteering events which often become chaotic and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

Volunteering is special to me, and if elected, I will ensure to dedicate my time to accomplish all that I can in the next year.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to achieve multiple things if elected. Firstly, I aim to achieve raising more awareness by informing other students and non-students about volunteering opportunities, through advertising, social media and conversing. Secondly, I hope to use my connections with suppliers to help manage volunteering events in the most organised way possible, and to ensure more people can take part in these events. Lastly, I hope to achieve more experience volunteering, meeting new people, and learning more about new challenges people face and how I can help.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I believe students should vote for me as I have the experience, the passion and the dedication to do this job right. I have deal with many volunteering events before, as well as engaged in many marketing strategies to advertise volunteering to others. With my connections in this field and my love for it, I promise to be putting in all my effort to make my position as useful as possible for those around me and those we are trying to help.

Sreejana Basu
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Nearly 15,000 children under the age of five die due to preventable diseases daily. As an active volunteer at several international NGOs, hospitals, and cancer societies, I have witnessed firsthand how a lack of healthcare, sanitation, and education impacts the livelihood of millions around the world. My gregarious nature, passion for volunteering, and invaluable experience thus enable me to effectively inspire the youth to positively impact our community. With your vote, let's help these disadvantaged children and change the belief that healthcare is a luxury reserved for the wealthy.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Increasing student engagement in volunteering activities will be my primary goal if elected as an officer. In order to achieve this, I intend on coordinating events, contacting local charities, and creating an easily accessible volunteer database. Since only a small percentage of university students actively commit to volunteering, spreading the word through sustainable social media campaigns and partnerships with organizations would definitely improve the overall volunteer experience at UCL. Through this, I am certain volunteering will be the new bandwagon and change will be the new cause.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

By electing me as your volunteering officer, you will play a part in driving change at UCL. As a dedicated individual working tirelessly to improve our community I will employ my positive energy and can-do attitude, to ensure that a culture of service is fostered and meaningful contributions are made to society. Additionally, I have an extensive background in managing and coordinating projects in addition to my stellar communication acumen, which will make our volunteering experience unforgettable. Remember to vote for me, and let's make this world a better place one smile at a time together!

Angel Au and Yuxing Weng
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hi, we are Angel (MSci Psychology) and Yuxing (MSci Natural Sciences). We hope to be your next Volunteering Officers because:

  • We knew each other from volunteering and have deeply felt the power of volunteering in uniting individuals beyond identities and backgrounds
  • Realising how volunteers are underrepresented, we are determined to be your dedicated support and enthusiastic about hearing your perspectives
  • As experienced volunteers at various charities, as well as leaders in local, national and international student-led groups (e.g. UCL Cultured Minds), we understand your ups and downs
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

We strive to achieve the following because we CARE about you:

  • CONNECT - Liaise with volunteers, Volunteering Representatives, Volunteering Service and Students’ Union proactively, responsively and responsibly
  • ASPIRE - Support your personal development and aspirations through skill-specific training and 1-to-1 coaching
  • REACH - Promote opportunities and events by leveraging digital social networks (e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn) and in-person pitching
  • EMBRACE - Organise socials of your choice to build an inclusive and diverse community for volunteers across charities and student-led projects
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

We have the ambition to tackle deep-rooted challenges:

  • Weak sense of community amongst all volunteers
  • Unidirectional communication via emails
  • Inadequate support for our development

Angel - As a student staff at SU and a previous Volunteering Rep who proposed adding a Volunteering Officer, I endeavour to further upscale your volunteering with my experience working with charities (e.g. Mind, Beat, Shout)

Yuxing - It makes sense to feel lost or worried about volunteering. I would like to empower everyone throughout the journey, building a close-knit community and keeping you in the loop
