Goksu Danaci

Merhaba! My name is Göksu and I’m a second year Politics, Sociology and East European Studies student. Eager to represent my love for my culture in the best way possible, I am running for President of the Turkish Society.

This urge of duty to represent my culture started when I came to this country at the age of 17 by myself, as I was the only Turkish student at school. During boarding school I had a chance to serve as the Deputy Head Girl and Head of House. This gave me an opportunity to coordinate many events as well as enhancing my communication skills acting as a bridge between the school administration and my friends.

I am motivated to become a leader and make sure all committee members work in unison to have a productive year. I'm sure this will help us enrich and preserve our cultural values and keep our community together. I am serving as the Operational Executive since our earthquake donation campaign this year.

As UCL Turkish Society, I believe we can be much more engaged with our community in London, and create our own tradition as Turkish students at UCL. To this end, I want to organise events such as but not limited to, regular socials within the UCL Turkish Society as well as Turkish Societies of other UK universities. I will try to make sure all of our projects that have been agreed by our committee, will be recognized and safeguarded by the Turkish Consulate and/or Turkish Embassy.

Thank you for reading!

Emrullah Yigit

Hello everyone!

My name is Emrullah, and I am a first-year Economics and Business with East European Studies undergraduate. I am an active member of the Turkish society, at least for the time being starting from the very day that I arrived to London, since I would like to immerse myself in a society that would supplement my enthusiasm of and missing for Türkiye. The society helps its members to have deep knowledge of amazing culture of Türkiye.
During my high school years, I took up leadership positions in many clubs including Dance, Maths, Sports and Model United Nations. As an extrovert person with strong communication and public speaking skills, I am intensely passionate about working with my peers in the society. I think I would be a well-suited candidate for this position as I am highly engaged in social activities. My desire is to create a stronger sense of community among Turkish students on campus.I will promote our society both on social media and face-to-face in various ways. I hope that my leadership skills like planning an event, timing, managing organizations and assisting team members will bring a lot to the table, and we have an exciting time within our society this upcoming year, 2023-2024!

1-Events including Turkish Food

2-Events with other cultural UCL socities

3-Special Days

---and more considering your recommendations.

I am sure that I will reach lots of freshers and work hard to expand our society.

Eda Yildirimkaya

Hi everyone! I am Eda, a second-year BA Media student. I am thrilled to announce that I am standing for the UCL Turkish Society's president role for the second time! Over the past year, I have worked diligently as the UK Global Advisor at GreaTR (an organization that creates career opportunities from Turkey for Turkish students studying abroad) to strengthen the society's relationships with the Turkish societies from the neighbouring and foreign universities and led the planning of the UK's largest Turkish careers summit in collaboration with GreaTR. The event will take place next autumn in Central London. Recently, I led the organisation of our successful donation campaign for the Turkey Earthquake, which made an impact across the UK media. Also, lately, I have organised a seminar with the IOE to spread awareness about the earthquake and its consequences in various aspects. If I get elected, my main goal for the next year is to continue serving my community by bringing them closer within the UCL and London Turkish student body through joint and private events and creating platforms for networking. I am making my candidacy based on the foundations and experience I have laid to revive this community that has never been active at UCL in the past years. I am confident I have the dedication and leadership skills to continue steering our society toward success and achievements. I am excited to work with the team once again and contribute to the growth of the UCL Turkish Society.
