I would love to become the new Welfare Officer for the Table Tennis Club this year for a number of reasons. Firstly, having been a member of the team for the past year, it would be amazing to give something back to the community and be part of the club’s decision making process. But most importantly, I am truly passionate about improving inclusivity within the club, and finding ways to include everyone in an environment that is non-judgmental and supportive. We all know that university can be a lonely time, especially when you’re away from friends and family. Therefore it is a priority for me to have more socials with the whole society in order for people to get to know each other. One idea of mine is to increase inclusivity would be to have alcohol free socials - whether this is a picnic or a meal out, there will always be something for everyone. Living in London is expensive at the best of times, consequently I would aim to tackle the stigma around financially accessing this sport on a case by case basis. In addition, I believe that having more Project Active table tennis sessions would be a brilliant way to not only get more people inspired to take up table tennis, but also to practice in a welcoming environment that takes into account all abilities. In my opinion, I am a very friendly and warm person, who people can go to at all times for support in a non- biased setting. This is supported by my previous training as a mental health first aider.
