My interest in T+O is growing, having recently attended the RSM Future of Orthopaedic Surgeons Conference, BOMSA London Undergraduate Symposium and organised orthopaedic taster weeks at UCLH and Kovai Medical Centre Hospital in India. I have taken initiative and curated an extensive range of contacts with various surgeons, who range in different stages in their careers. This has further developed my understanding of the speciality and the pathway for medical students. Notably, I have experience in multiple surgical societies as a Conference Facilitator for iNUGSC 2023 and as an Education Officer for BISA. As Conference Facilitator I succeeded in procuring 6 world renowned speakers to attend, liaising with the Conference Executive weekly to discuss advertising and sponsorship.

I believe that there should be an increase in T+O events and emphasis on education in this speciality. I will aim to develop:

  • Talks on Leadership, Diversity and Women in Orthopaedics
  • Pathways and how to get into Specialty Training
  • A practical workshop in tandem with the surgical skills officers

Furthermore my main aim would be to establish a UCL Surgical Society Orthopaedic Conference. I feel that my experiences and my contacts with consultants and Orthopaedic trainees holds me in a strong position to produce this.

T+O is an important speciality and I hope to emphasise that next year. I hope you see that my range of experiences and passion for this specialty make me the ideal candidate.
