Ami Kashima

Hi everyone, I’m Ami! I joined Student Action for Refugees (STAR) in 2021, and I am currently the Treasurer of UCL STAR.

As a committee member of UCL STAR, I played a key role in organising all of the events that took place this year, including socials, campaign actions, film screenings, fundraisers, and volunteering opportunities. Out of all events, I particularly enjoyed organising fundraising events like the Great STAR National Bake-off, which UCL STAR won for raising the most money out of all universities in the UK.

If I get elected as a Fundraising Officer, I will make sure we will run engaging, effective, and creative fundraisers that will support and aid refugees in urgent need. My priority will be to ensure that we fundraise for trustworthy charity organisations with causes that are making meaningful contributions to the lives of refugees (e.g. STAR’s #EqualAccess program to improve access to higher education, BRC’s emergency support services). I believe that this year’s committee managed to rebuild UCL STAR and establish a stronger relationship with STAR’s national team, so as a committee member, I will try my best to help our society remain an active group of the national network.

Using my genuine passion for refugee advocacy and empowerment, I
