I'm Leila, a first-year Geography student from Bath and since joining UCL, I have found the social squash sessions to be a comforting start to my Sunday mornings! I've loved being able to chat and listen to what everyone's been up to while occasionally knocking a ball around! I have played squash for over 10 years during which I have been part of my local county team, competed in multiple tournaments, and assisted in junior squash coaching. As a result, I feel confident in my knowledge of the sport and my ability to direct and organise our social squash sessions as well as suggest new activities.
Through this role, I hope to:
- improve social squash sessions by providing a more structured opportunity to play casual games during the sessions, on top of our usual three-quarters! I believe having the option for more competitive play could appeal to more of our players and also give beginners a friendly introduction to matches, encouraging everyone to take part in the Social Squash Cup
- continue to build on the buddy system and the Cup with feedback from everyone on how they'd like them to be organised or made more accessible.
