Being part of RAX has been one of the highlights of my university experience, and has enabled me to meet so many great people all while improving my running. I have been part of the club since my first year, and have been on committee for the past two years, as Welfare Officer (2021/22) and Treasurer this year.

As Treasurer this academic year, I have been assisting our president in planning competitions and events for the clubs, and believe that this puts me in an ideal position to run the club next academic year. I understand how different fixtures and competitions work, and have experience communicating with the student union. I have been frequently leading social runs as well as attending training sessions, social events and competitions. I have also been organising London Landmarks Half Marathon fundraising events for our team.

If elected, some of my goals for the club next year are to:

-Create an alumni newsletter

-Organise a weekend away trip

-Support the Community Outreach and Volunteering Officer in organising another fundraiser for a new charity and race

-Support the Social Secretaries in hosting more frequent socials

-Help further bridge the gap between our XC and Athletics Teams

I am truly passionate about RAX and hope that, by being elected, I can continue making the club a fun and inclusive place for all!

Anna :)

Alex Richardson

Hi, I’m Alex, and I’d love to be your president next year.

RAX has been one of the highlights of my university experience, and I’m hoping for the opportunity to give back to the club.

Having enthusiastically attended almost everything RAX has to offer, I feel well-equipped to work with a team of like-minded runners to grow and shape the club. With past leadership experience in youth organisations, I am highly motivated to apply what I know, and learn what I don’t, to make me an effective president.

My priorities as president would include:

  • Continuing to boost engagement.
Better communication and an increased social media output have made the club feel much more cohesive this year. Maintaining this, as well as encouraging regular and strong appearances at competitions and events, will continue to bring the team together.
  • Regularly communicating with the Union and TeamUCL.
To guarantee that our events run smoothly, and to keep our members informed on upcoming activities.
  • Setting a strong example and supporting the committee.
I will continue to attend everything I’m able to, and ensure we maintain a healthy, welcoming environment within the club for both current and prospective members.

One of the best things about running is the lack of barriers to participation, and RAX does a brilliant job of including anyone in the sport - regardless of ability. I will strive to ensure that the club maintains this friendly training environment in the next year.

Thanks!

Hannah Martin

Hi, I’m Hannah, and I’ve been a part of RAX for both of the 2 years I’ve been at UCL. You may (hopefully) recognise me as this year's Social Running Captain! I’ve loved being a part of the running club and the inclusive community it comes with, and being President would be a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to grow this and inspire even more people to love running. As president, I will work closely with the rest of the committee to ensure the club is as inclusive and close-knit as possible, and that everyone, from beginners to elite athletes, feels represented. I would also focus heavily on organisation and cohesiveness within the committee, ensuring our partaking in LUCA and BUCS competitions runs smoothly and our socials are frequent and well-planned. Decisiveness within the committee is vital to the success of the club and I will focus heavily on ensuring this standard is met and that members of the club experience the benefits. Encouraging as many people as possible to engage with others in the team is incredibly important to me, and whether this is in amazing race turnout or enthusiasm about social runs and events, I would be very involved in the team’s participation and welfare. Finally, my experience in the club and the committee means I really understand what we succeed in and what we can improve upon, and I will work hard to make sure we are the best we can be in 2023/24.
