Rare FM: Head of Music

My name is Alexia Mihaila and I am a fourth-year Arts & Sciences undergrad re-running as Head of Music for Rare FM! 

Having been Head of Music for over two years and running two radio shows, Songwriters Station at Rare FM and Daily Intermission at WCBN FM in Michigan, I’ve developed a passion for radio which was already fueled by my love for music. In the past, I've also managed to secure interviews with slowthai, Ray Blk, Tom Odell's band members and more. Given how much I’ve learnt from working closely with all committee members in the past and working at a physical radio station in the US, I’ve learnt how to organize music review sessions and promote underground and emerging artists!

My plan for next year is to:

* Seek and promote UCL artists through playlists, interviews and acoustic performances

*  Expanding the Rare FM written and video interview catalogue with UnCL 

* Building a Radio ID catalogue with musicians and students

* Organising music review sessions

* Establishing new connections and strengthening the bonds with pluggers, labels, and artist 

* Putting together more collaborative playlists and playlists specific to holidays or pop-culture references

* Collaborating with other music societies such as Live Music, EMS and more.

I love representing Rare FM as Head of Music since it's become such a big part of my life and what I genuinely enjoy doing! My past experience also qualifies me for the role, so I hope you'll vote for me again! :)

RareFm has been one of the biggest highlights of my university experience. By turning my serial playlist-making into a legitimate hobby and enabling my ramblings for an hour a week, I have found running a show to be some of the most fulfilling work I have ever done. 

RareFM has been one of the most amazing and welcoming communities. I have talked a number of people into getting shows and as Head of Music, I would use my position to do this officially. 

Through meeting fellow music lovers, DJs, producers, etc., I have discovered a whole new side of music. With this role, I want to bring more and more music lovers together by:

- organizing listening parties

- hosting album releases 

- creating a platform for sharing music intra-society

I am heavily involved in a lot of local music and have spent all my money on local gigs (not running for Treasurer - we are all good).  As part of my role, I want to release newsletters and keep people as up-to-date as possible on events. It would be amazing to go to local gigs and events as a RareFm community.

Furthermore, I have experience in producing and have worked with events teams and local bands such as Los Bichos as a particular highlight; creating strong links with local and student musicians/bands would be a key area I want to expand. 

I have met so many amazing people and would love for others to do the same. As Head of Music, I would love to create a more interconnected musical community for as many people as possible.
