With our diverse international student population and unusual routine of postgraduate students, I have deep empathy for the occasional disenchantment, discomfort and loneliness of it. I prioritize human connections and am committed to creating these opportunities for our postgraduates right now and improving the university experience.
At UCL, I have been a student leader as a Course Representative, Lead Course Representative, Society President while also participating in focus groups to lend student voice for educational affairs.
I have been building a wide student perspective to offer a unanimous and accurate student position to relevant discussions. I also organised peer review sessions, course feedback sessions, studio clean-ups, a peer mentorship program and departmental rep meetings. With the UCL East Society, we create inclusive postgraduate socials near East Campuses.
Experience as a student leader in several different roles during my postgraduate studies had me connected to the student body to gain a lot of perspective on differing and common opinions. I have always maintained full transparency of my communications and work.
I am a proactive communicator with patience and empathy in every conversation. I believe in bringing students together through common themes and allowing the diversity within them to further interesting experiences.
My main policy is concentrated on revitalising the postgraduate social experience at UCL.
Us postgrads are often lumped into one group when we are actually a very diverse cohort. I want to set up and successfully implement a social event structure that caters to every postgrad student, whether you are PGT, PGR, a carer, a parent, part-time, full-time, mature, based on main campus or at UCL East.
- I want Postgrads to feel a part of the UCL community
- I want it to be easy and flexible to socialise, to network, and to meet other students
- I want postgrad experience to rival that of undergrad
EXPERIENCE
- 6 years studying at UCL (year-abroad BA degree and part-time MSc).
- 3 years of experience working in the Students' Union.
- Carried out 80+ events in UCL Welcome 2022 (boat parties, speedfriendings, and more).
- I am currently the Postgraduate Events Assistant. Within 2 months I have organised monthly Wine and Cheese Nights, weekly Coffee Mornings, and a PHD Theatre Trip, amongst other events.
- Other SU roles: sports assistant for TeamUCL and Project Active, Printroom Barista, UCL 101 Talks Speaker, Sports Rep.
- Collaborated with Project Active on Postgraduate Summer initiative.
For far too long postgrad students have been neglected. We comprise over half of the student body and yet we do not see this reflected nor the representation shown in the services provided. Many postgrad students feel left on the sidelines and are having to self-organise to make connections across their cohort, to socialise, and to feel a part of the UCL community.
With my experience in the SU, I know I can change this. Above all, I am passionate and driven to do everything I can to help make UCL the experience you want.
I know what can be achieved, and I know I can achieve it for all of you
If I get elected as your PG Officer I will-

· Provide better access to more resourced mental health services, with greater diversity among counsellors
· Create an action plan to combat isolation in widening participation groups
· Make sure PHD stipend increments are proportionate to annual inflation rate
· Provide Cost of living support for self- funded PGRs

#UCL SU NEEDS CHANGE
#ADITYA LATHAR IS THE CHANGE
I want all postgraduate students to make the most out of their time at UCL.
Here is my plan:
- Affordable for all. Reduce PG application fees and expand fee waiver scheme for students in hardship.
- Fair and Square. Create more transparent system for refunds due to strikes.
- We want to work. Improve career advice and create work opportunities tailored for postgraduate students.

- “I wanna dance with somebody!”. Host postgrad socials across all faculties.
Experience: I have always been involved in student bodies to bring positive change. I was a Course Rep during my undergrad at Queen Mary and I am also Rep here at UCL.
Good listener: When students come to me with issues they have, I always give them my full attention and listen with compassion. I make sure the voices of my peers are being heard by voicing them forward directly to people in power.
Solution focused: Last semester I fought for home Adobe Premier licence for my cohort of 120 students. This achievement was recognised by Student Union and I was chosen as Course Rep of the Month.
As someone who came from abroad to study in the UK, but having lived here 5 years I am uniquely suited to understand both international and home students needs. I recognise the challenges that postgraduate students are facing and the pressure they feel to make the most of out of their limited time at UCL.
Now more than ever, during the cost of living crisis and rising prices, you need a proactive, experienced and pragmatic officer that will make your experience of studying at UCL more affordable and simply pleasurable. I am here to deliver exactly that!
