Yazhini Poongundran

Malayali Society is an organisation that strives to promote the culture, language, and heritage of Kerala. As a Social Secretary, I would be responsible for organising events and activities that are aimed at fostering a sense of community among members. My qualifications make me well-suited for this position as I have experience in event planning and management from my current role as a First Year Representative.

I am passionate about Malayali culture and believe strongly in its values of respect, collaboration, creativity, and hospitality. My enthusiasm combined with my organisational skills will help ensure successful events from game/movie nights and organised outings (bowling, laser tag, mini golf, dinner socials etc.) to Onam, the Christmas boat party and potentially a themed/ colour-coordinated dinner & dance event (with raffle prizes/ prizes for best dressed) while creating lasting memories for all who attend them. Furthermore, I have excellent communication skills which allow me to effectively interact with people from different backgrounds allowing us to build meaningful relationships within both our society’s membership and other societies at UCL like Tamil Society, if needed.

Rohan George

Namaskaram,

After displaying occasionally terrible defending skills in the weekly football games, absolutely no dancing abilities in the Christmas boat ball and atrocious rizz at take me out last month, I believe that I, Rohan George, am a suitable candidate for the role of Social Secretary. For those of you who may not know me, I’m a second-year economics student and I am really looking forward to being part of the 2023-24 committee of Malayali society.

On a more serious note, since joining the society I have come to find a second home within the society and really hope to provide the same feeling towards new and continuing members of the society through the events I plan to host. Alongside our showcase events (Boat ball, Onam and Take Me Out), I hope to organise smaller events throughout the year and collaborate with fellow London Mallu Societies to organise more inter-university events and expand our network as much as possible. I also promise to ensure that the future treasurer of Malayali Society participates on Take Me Out next year after making excuses this year ;).

If you’ve made it this far, thank you, and I hope I’ve done enough to earn your vote!

Rohan :)

Farhan Ashiq

Hi everyone, it's Farhan, your first year student representative for UCL Malayali Society. As you may know, I am a familiar face across campus, networking with people of all backgrounds. You might also know me as the guy constantly in "B1," racing for people's Instagrams. I like to think of myself as a friendly and responsible person who can foster community spirit and a sense of belonging for us Malayalis, alongside introducing our culture to curious onlookers. These are only some reasons why I would like to apply for Social Secretary.

I can manage people in a calm, confident manner given that I have dealt with patient by phone and in person. Moreover, I have liaised with people of all levels to cooperate and get on with the task at hand, and I hope that my colleagues feel the same is true with the society. I hope this is a testament to my social skills.

I admit a lot of the work required to run UCL Malayali Society will be on the job training. There will be a lot to learn about leadership and event management, especially Onam and other big events. However, I will be able to overcome these hurdles as I am a quick learner, having acquired skills quickly in my NHS and Oxfam jobs.

All in all, I encourage you guys to choose me as your Social Secretary if you want Yusuff Ali to invest with us and gain more Mallu connections.

Samyukta Ajay

I am standing for social secretary because I would like to play a more significant role in coming up with and organising events. I have attended most of the events this year, as well as many from other universities’ Malayali societies, which has allowed me to develop ideas and social connections that will be useful for next year.
