Since starting uni in September, joining jazz society has been one of the best decisions I have made, and not only for the opportunity to play some cool tunes with some sound people, but for the social aspect as well. Some of the most fun I’ve had this year has been with jazz society – whether it’s having a few pints too many at Huntley after big band, or “only having one” at the jam and then stumbling into my 9am a few hours later, I’ve loved getting to know new mates in the society this year, and I want to enable more people to have those experiences in the next academic year. I want to help people get as much out of this society as possible – and in being your social secretary I think that I can achieve this. I am very keen to work collaboratively with members of the society, to organise regular socials and events that members want to be a part of, and I’d make a point of being approachable and welcoming to any ideas that anyone has. Whether it be a visit to Blues Kitchen on a Wednesday for £6 cocktails and live music, bar crawls to fun jazz clubs (I will try and avoid ending up at The Court but no promises), trips to London jazz events, or just an unreal jazz show afterparty, I want to organise a couple of fun socials each term to give us a chance to forget about uni and enjoy some tunes, with or without a drink, in the company of you lovely people. I hope I have secured your vote and if so, I look forward to a few Huntley pints and a few Ronnie's visits with you legends.

Glody Y G.

I'm running for SOCIAL SECRETARY because I like setting up fun events which can hopefully build a stronger sense of COMMUNITY and get more people into Jazz Soc (which can often seem quite daunting NEWCOMERS)

M A N I F E S T O :

  1. We're so blessed to have such a great jazz scene in London! ORGANISING MEETS at jazz clubs and bars like Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott's and many others would be a great way chill over drinks.
  2. Jazz soc is home to quite a diverse range of backgrounds. To help celebrate different cultures I would love to set up a POTLUCK at some point!

Thanks for reading my entry! If any of these ideas resonated with you then feel free to drop me a quick nomination ?
