The people are the beating heart of hockey, without them we cannot play our great sport. So, it is equally important that we look after each and every one of us. UCL hockey have been there to help me through tough times, by being people I can talk to and raise concerns. Now I want to be that person people can come to when they need someone. Physical and mental health are particularly important to me, and by having people's best interest at heart, I believe I have what it takes to be the next welfare officer.

Adam Marsh

I am running for a role on committee this year to become a more active and involved member of the hockey club. Joining hockey allows everyone to meet new people and is a great way to balance the week’s studying with hockey’s weekly socials and training to look forward to. But meeting new people can be a very daunting thing. This is why it’s so important to have an inclusive society where people feel able to speak to and confide in other members of the club if they are having a tough time.

As welfare sec, I want to focus on making the entire club feel more connected by having more men's hockey events to bring the whole men’s club together and more mixed socials with the women's club, so you get to know lots of new people. The jump from school to university is a big one. Moving to a new place without knowing anybody can be hard, so I want to ensure freshers integrate smoothly into the club and their team at the earliest opportunity.

To do this, I would like to arrange some sessions at the start of the year where freshers and new people joining the club can get involved from day one and have a chat about what this coming year might look like.

Lastly, I want to say that I am an ear in the club, not only for freshers and new people joining but for everybody, so if you need to talk about absolutely anything, hockey-related or not, I’m always around for a chat. So please reach out to me or any other members of the club, or online anonymously, with any concerns you may have.
