Rishit Gadre

Hi! I am Rishit Gadre, a first-year astrophysics student from Mumbai, India. I am running for Sports Director of UCL Hindu Society 2023/24. I have always had a keen inclination toward sports since my childhood, starting off by learning Kung Fu at the age of 8 and playing squash at interstate competitions in India. They taught me the importance of persistence and helped me develop a never give up attitude. Recently, I transitioned to basketball and also represented my school team back in India. These sports helped me develop my personality in three primary ways. It made me a better teamworker and gave me the opportunity to better deal with competition, pushing myself to achieve my aims. I learnt the value of patience and its importance in achieving one's goals. I intend to bring in these qualities if I get voted as the Sports Director.

As the sports director, I intend to implement the three Is; inclination, innovation, and inclusivity. Inclination by increasing the availability of sports amidst a wider range of students, encouraging them to try new activities. Innovation by introducing lesser-known local games like Kabaddi and Kho-Kho giving members the opportunity to try them out for themselves. Inclusivity by incorporating mental health which is integral for holistic wellness. Additionally, I aim to increase inclusivity of women in the field of sports, giving them a better opportunity to participate. I really hope to be considered for this role and I will make sure I do it justice.

Vishesh K Panchal

i come from a very sports friendly background. Having started playing tennis competitively since I was only 8 years old to now going gym regularly and playing casual football with friends along with carrying on tennis . I organise with my friends to go play football every week. I believe in this position I can offer to increase the amount of sports competitions and in general organise more sports to the society. For example weekly football at Corram fields or weekly cricket at Regent’s Park can be some of the ideas. Further there can be mini tournaments held within the society like 5 a side football tournaments which would come to be a successful way to allow even non Hindus to join the society.
