Guild Society: Head of Guild Academy

Hi I am Toby, a second year PPE student and I am running for the Head of Guild Academy. Over the past year, I have been an Executive for Events and Outreach and have collaborated with the Guild Academy team to organise speaker events in multiple industries such as banking, finance and consulting that have allowed members to learn more about those fields and network with professionals. The events have not only been beneficial for students attending, but has also helped me learn how to manage events to ensure that it runs smoothly. I believe in the impact that the Guild Academy can bring to UCL students and am therefore running for the position in order to further perfect the events the Guild is organising for its members.

Building upon the successes in the past year, I would like to achieve the following goals:

- Continue holding speaker and networking events in banking, finance and consulting

- Expand the scope of events into less well-known careers, eg. human resources, sales, graphic design

- Increase brand awareness through collaboration with other non-career related societies 

- Introduce a workshop on the basics of CVs and Cover Letters for students who lack prior experience in job search

I believe brand awareness is still one of the biggest bottlenecks the Guild faces. Therefore, with the aforementioned initiatives, I hope that more students can get to know about the Guild and be able to benefit their careers prospects through taking part in Guild Academy events.
