Nojus Balciunas

I moved to this country at the age of 5, without knowing the language or anyone else. Since then, my life has been filled with new experiences. Transitioning to university was one such experience, which was even more challenging because no one in my family had gone to university before, and I had no one from whom I could receive advice. Although my time here has been great, it took me a few weeks to acclimate and make friends. However, the First Gen Society helped provide me with a sense of belonging and acceptance. It has fuelled my passion to help others like me, and I believe this role would offer me a platform to achieve that.

Regarding the treasurer's responsibilities, I am confident that my degree in Economics and my keen interest in finance have equipped me with the necessary skills to manage the society's funds. Through my degree programme and finance-related extracurriculars, I have become more confident in dealing with financial matters such as money management and budgeting.

I am excited about the prospect of contributing my skills to the First Gen Society.

Pragnya Dara

Having been Events officer for First Generation UCL for a year, I have appreciated the importance of first generation representation at university and beyond, and I wish to continue to work on this in my position as Treasurer this year.

My priority this upcoming year will be to create a safe and welcoming space for first generation freshers who may feel out of place at a big university like UCL. Working with the President on organising events and collaborating with other societies to make a bigger impact for fellow first generation students will be what I work towards this year.

I will also be working hard to ensure there are appropriate funds to run society events - working with the events officer, sponsorship officer and external organisations to maximise funds to ensure the smooth running of all of our events will be a key priority of mine. I will work to ensure funds are efficiently used to create the best opportunities for members, whether it be networking events or relaxed evenings for fellow members.
